Starter motor help!

Hi all,

took of my old starter motor as when i turned the ignition its just clicked under the seat but didnt turn the motor, when taken it off there was corrosion therefore allowing water to enter in the case... not a pretty sight looked like the filming set off terminator 2!

Anyway priced new from Honda dealerships based on my bike being a 2000 model firestorm(superhawk) and got quoted £600 ... after picking myself off the floor can anyone help with the following questions.

Why would the price be so ridiculous for New?

And sourcing a second hand starter off a cbr fireblade which is identical as mine would this work?

cheers

Get one from ebay from £20 - £100

A 1997-2003 CBR1100XX Blackbird one should fit - but please double check first. A Fireblade one from my research isn't identical so won't fit.

Part no. 31200-MAT-003

Remember to keep the bolt under the rubber hood greased/vaselined up to keep salty crud out!

a new one from the states is 356$ before discounts that is about 230 pounds. not sure why so expensive there. a few companies sell after market starters, they are about 200$.. most of the time you can have them rebuilt. less than a 100. a motor shop ,alternators and such, can do it.

You can get a starter rebuild kit for about $50 off of ebay. It takes about half an hour to pull it apart, clean it up, rebuild it, etc... Also, new O-ring would be nice.

Ive taken a chance and ordered a starter from a 99 fireblade, as far as the picture from the ebay seller, it looks perfect, £19 was the price so if it isnt a match ill get another!

my bieks done 40k so by the looks of the old one its probably the original from new!!
