Sprocket

Ok so the other day i started my bike drove down the road when my bike started jolting. I checked the chain and its obviously it, so i get back to the house all pissed off. Get in my car and head to work unhappy! I was reading my service manual on the chain tightening! Yes i am a NEWBIE and like to read before I do anything. When i was reading there was a diagram for the sprocket and its everything you don't want it to be. The bike got 31K miles on it and i am the third owner (Its a ****!!!), I know the owner before me beat the hell out of it. The fork seals that i replaced where a dead give away.

1st Question is: How long do Sprocket typically last?

2nd: Has anyone done a 502 conversion?

3rd: Found A kit on flebay and is it worth it? For some reason can't post the link

4th: does it hinder gas milage for the change?

5th: What Size is the damn Axle Nut in the Rear? Don't have tools of my own so I am buying them as i go along!

So just a few questions for everyone here

Beware SCUM of all parts doesn't stock these kits. Took about a month to get mine and I live in the same state. And then they got my order wrong.......

520 are smaller/lighter at the expense of life; a racer mod that's made it way to mainstream. Also, aluminum rear sprockets are lighter/cheaper but don't last as long as heavier steel. All fronts are steel. Yes, that ratio will hurt fuel economy but many riders don't think so since their odometer now reads higher and don't take that into account when calculating mileage.

High torque bikes ridden hard eat chains. 31k would be almost impossible on a "beater"; most likely the second chain. Does it have a rivet or master link? Stock are endless and don't have these links. If it is stock, it was dead a long time ago.

IIRC, rear axle sizes are 27 and 22mm but verify that. I guess the stock tool kit is long gone?
