Im new to biking and the forum, those would know from the general discussions forum.
i have a 2000 firestorm of which has done 38k, fsh plus tensioners replaced along the way from the last owner, piece of mind wise im thinking of replacing, would i need to? what do i need to listen for if i think they were on way out? as for cam chain is this a specific noise if on way out?
Hope that made sense

Mostly what you will notice is excessive noise during acceleration especially at low speeds when your bike is really cranking out the torque. If you really feel the need for piece of mind, consider gettting the manual adjusters. They are great and you only need to adjust them about every 6 K. Well, for me anyways...

they can fail with little to no warning. That said waiting to hear the failure noise will drive you nuts. I started "hearing" the rattle a few times only to discover it was a car or truck next to me. I finally cured my paranoia by just replacing them for manual ones. Now I ride in bliss.
Don't wait, replace them as soon as you have the time.

I did 60,000km on my original cct's.
The only noise I heard was a bit of rattle when slowing down.
Yes, I too heard all kinds of noises from cars and trucks around me and thought it was my cct's
I replaced mine with orginal Honda replacements.
I like the idea of automatic adjusting.
Plus I don't like APE's. They don't carry the orginal cap over the pusher. I would be afraid that it will wear the tensioner rod from the back side.
It took one hour to replace both tensioners. Cost me less than 100 bucks.
I'll do that every two years and feel great about it.
I'm sure your bike with 38k on it is still fine. Because you say they were replaced before.

Just a quick hint... While replacing them, make sure the cylinder that you are working on is at TDC. This will releive some of the tension on the chain ensuring that it does not skip a tooth while working on it. If you hear an audible "Click", you might as well stop where you are and get down to the cams to reset your timing.

It was really nice last week, right around low 70's. Today it's about 52 and sunny. Not bad, but not great either. I'm taking this slow time in business to rebuild my Hawk. I have a lot of work to do on her.
