Question R1 Rectifier rewiring

My rectifier went bad so I've purchased a Yamaha R1 unit off Ebay, but I think I got the wrong year. The one I got has two plugs with 3 prongs in each. I assume one is for the three yellow wires coming out of the stator, but don't know which plug is right, or what the extra prong in the other plug is for.

Did I waste $30, or can I make this one work? All the references I've found in the forums show the one plug/5 prong R1 rectifier. Any help would be appreciated, as I want to get the Hawk rolling again.

Sounds like you have the correct R/R.

Look closely at the photos here and you'll see where to put the red hot wire and ground. the three yellows can be hooked up any where on the bottom row.

Here's a picture of the Yamaha rectifier I got off Ebay:

It didn't come with any wires so I can't match anything up to the wires on the Hawk. I'm guessing it's from a newer R1 with fuel injection, and that's probably what the extra prong is for.

Any ideas?

I seriously doubt that anything as important as injection would get power directly from the stator. Lines go from there to fuses, batteries, and grounds. Go online and/or a Yammie dealer and find the schematic. It will show you what wire goes where and sometimes you can ask a mechanic which wire is what color or look at one in service etc. That's how I wired mine up...many miles ago.

The extra wires are for additional regulation/sensing of battery voltage. As suggested a wiring chart will show you. Maybe there is a online version.

I just installed a 7 wire gixxer unit to my RCBVFR tonight. 3 black to the stator, one black/white to frame ground, one black/red to main switch, additional black/white to battery neg, and additional black/red to battery positive. 13.75-14.50 volts with headlights and fan running at idle. I'm luvin' it. R/R is now located between fork legs with stock gixxer bracket that also mounts the horn.
