Hey guys quick question. Is this the R/R and does it look like the stock unit? Didnt have any markings on the face side.

Thought the stock unit didnt have cooling fins?

'98-'99 don't have cooling fins, '00 and up do (the earlier ones are the same size w/out the fins). That's all that's different, though; still very susceptible to failure. Aftermarket units are much bigger

2001 and on stock unit has fins... So your bike obviously has had the R/R swapped at some point...

If you live in constant fear of your r/r going out on you during a ride, then maybe. My stock unfinned R/R lived for almost 10 years and 40k miles. Mine started to give indications of failure early on so I caught it before it destroyed anything or left me stranded. Mine started failing high, and would intermittently make the headlight go brighter for moments at a time.

Thanks Greg!!! Im gonna keep my eyes out for a replacement. Knock on wood its been fine to my knowledge. Havent seen any signs of a problem. Thanks again for the info!!
