Check out your stator if you have an ohmmeter.
Did you get the R/R used?
Remember stock or OEM style R/R units are very much like tires.
The more you use them, the more spent they are.
More accurately, the faster you rev the motor, the more it heats up
and wears out. (unless you can can keep them really cool)

Was it a Honda R/R? I don't trust the chinese aftermarket one's. It could have failed on you again. If it did it went in the dead direction as opposed to the melt everything direction.

I got a finned cheapo and it has lasted 3 years so far.. but I have been lucky, when it eventually goes I will be getting a good one.
