New chain time, 520 or 530?
New chain time, 520 or 530?
Im in need of a chain and sprockets. So should I go 520 or 530?
I commute in all weathers everyday. But I do have a Scott oiler just fitted and I got over 30,000ks out of my last set which are still going strong on my old bike. I run 15/41 and am very happy with it.

I went through this Dilema and in the end settled for the 530.
Mainly because I have snapped a chain once before and feel safer with the 530 although the weight saving with the 520 was attractive.
I currently have a new chain, sprockets and Cush rubbers waiting to be fitted but the current set with 28k is still o.k for now.

What the others said. For commuting and generally less worry, I run 530. I only marginally care for my chain and it just wasn't something I feel necessary to try to cut back on. A lighter flywheel or rims will make a bigger difference. But if taken care of, a 520 will last a decent amount of time time and rotational weight does make a difference. Make sure to get steel sprockets, though, or a hybrid like a supersprox rear ring.
