I've only ever done comp tests with the throttle fully open, all plugs out of the motor and using the starter motor to turn crank. A few rotations gets you a peak number.

Im with Wolverine on this one. All plugs out and throttle wide open. Smack the starter for 3-4 seconds then take the reading.

There is no "standard" but many manufacturers have test methods defined to go with cylinder pressure specifications.
Honda says for the VTR



Other than manufactures condemned test procedures, no plugs, on a fully capable power source (not just onboard battery), throttles wide open is common...

wither you let it crank 4, 5, 10 revolutions or until max pressure is reached is a choice, again unless the OEM has a test procedure that starts otherwise. , just be consistent
