LOW MILES, NO SERVICE RECORDS

Bought my 1999 Superhawk with only 2800 miles this spring. Previous owner bought it for his wife new in 2000, obviously she spent little time riding. Was told he changed oil once. In the 5 months i have owned the bike, it has accumulated another 2000 miles and an oil change. Bike came without an owners manual, My question is what maintenance should be done for this bike? Bike was kept in unheated garage on a battery tender.

Replace coolant and brake and clutch fluid. You might look at replacing the tires as well, since the rubber is 10 years old and dry as hell.

+1. If you have the stock Dunlop D204s on there, change em'. Even if they still have deep tread left. You'll be glad you did.

+4 on replacing tires. Good time to upgrade to SS brake lines as well.

Since it sat for a while, maybe some fuel system cleaner would be helpful as well.

Tires, all fluids, make sure chain is clean and properly lubed(I use WD40 as lube and cleaner). Also make sure nothing has made a home in the airbox, check the tank for rust, check all the fuses. Make sure no screws are missing, etc.

don't use wd40 as a cleaner or lube. use kerosene and proper lube.

+1 on the brake and clutch fluid, and the coolant.

Hopefully the brake and clutch cylinders aren't corroded.

I assume Honda used aluminum pistons in these?

thanks

Will replace all the fluids mentioned. Yes, they are the stock tires on the bike. Thought they looked OK, but upon closer inspection there is some slight cracking of they rubber and i will replace them immediately. The motor runs like a champ! I really appreciate the support from everybody! Any suggestions on a good all round tire? Mike
