Installing a HELI coil
Hello,
I am brand new to this board but was very active on a SH mail list that went away. Anyways, I was riding my 98 SH from Florida to Chicago. I managed to have a spark plug pop out of the head in Kentucky. I trailered
the bike home. I want to fix the stripped out head threads with a Heli coil. Do you guys have any pointers for me? do I have to remove the head to do this? It is the front head by the way...
Thank you for your help...
Mark RS
PS
I put over 18,000 miles on my bike last year in 8 months.
I am no squid thank-you-very-much

Re: Installing a HELI coil
Follow the directions in the kit. Use plenty of grease on the drill and thread cutter to catch shavings. Blow out the cylinder with plenty of compressed air to try to get any shavings that may fall into the cylinder.
Its done often without problems. But the best way is really to remove the head to ensure that no particles fall in.
