Ignition control module/CDI oozing?

Anyone else ever have an ignition control module/CDI starting leaking/oozing what looks like sticky hot melt glue all over the place? This is now the second one I've seen do it that were both sitting in storage so they didn't get hot/overheat or something. I've read about it happening on old cars and trucks. I guess these are now old bikes too...

It's most likely the potting compound around the circuit board. Does the control module look as if it can be opened without destroying it? Clean off the remaining goo and re-pot the board? Reason I ask is it might be something I'll have to deal with on my 27 year old bike.
