High mount mid pipe assistance
High mount mid pipe assistance
I'm looking for high mount mid pipes for a LeoVince exhaust system. Will these mids work (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ART-E...Q5fAccessories)?
"Kit includes all the parts you need to fit Art Slip-On Silencers to your stock headpipes
Highly polished, corrosion resistant T304 stainless steel construction and CNC bent for accuracy
Outside diameter of the slotted end of the pipes measure 1-7/8" and outside diameter of the oposite end is 2"

Are you asking if they'll fit LV mufflers or if they'll fit a superhawk header or both? Right side RC51 midpipes will work on a superhawk (the bend is basically the same, I think they may be a little longer). The left side will not, the bend where it connects to the header is not the same. LV mufflers have a 2" inlet (a hair more or less if you're talking inner or outer diameter) and the mids you show are also 2" o.d. So if they dont slip on as is I'm sure a muffler shop can easily tweak them a hair to fit. LV mufflers originally use a single spring on the underside of the midpipe & muffler inlet. The Arts seem to use a clamp, which I guess you could still use. Also the LV midpipes actually "sandwich" the muffler inlet between two layers of metal. It actually slips in between two layers in the midpipe. Just additional info if you care, but I'm sure those mids (or any other 2" mids) could easily be made to fit up to Leo mufflers.
You might want to check with some of your local muffler shops. They can bend-stretch about anything you need. Is it mandrel bends - no. Get the job done for $50-60 per side - way cool. They polish up pretty good as it's an "aluminized" alloy pipe they use. (?)
I took the stock vfr muffler to the shop and asked them "Can you match this flange?" He takes the can and says come back later.
The fitment for the Superhawk is much easier. It's all slip joints with clamps (or can be).
So in the afternoon I go back and he has the flange welded to a six inch straight pipe. I take it back to the shop and it mates to the stock VFR header perfect. Chas, Syd and I take off on the bikes that night with me running only this 6" off header. I could shame any gixxer town.
Next day I take the bike (with the hideous straight pipe) back to the shop with a D&D can that I had for the Superhawk. I told the guys, start here at the flange you already built and end up here (and I just held the can where I wanted it) - No problem - come back at 3.
I showed up at 3 and the bike was perfect. Placement was right where I wanted it and the D&D sound was great. I kinda knew these guys had it right when I walked out so when I came back I had a dog food bag loaded with beer and ice.
