Greg, I think he's talking about the rubber expansion thing that the bar end actually screws into. Mine were a hassle to get out so I just looked up the new parts and ordered them to install into my new helis. I don't remember it being a lot of money but there are about two or three parts that have to be ordered to get the whole assembly. By the time the new guts got here the bike was wrecked and still have not been installed. It was amazing to me how quiet the bars were without anything. I just slammed a new set of Oury Grips on the helis and away we went. Now, I'm not sure they need it and can't explain why. I ran the 11.75 stainless on the stock bars and they shook the **** outa me. The stock bars just got to a certain rpm and they would ring like a bell.

Ah, those friggin things. I hate 'em. Try squirting some brake cleaner in there with the straw and pulling....very hard. A second person is sometimes best so you don't pull the bike over. I used vice-grips and a bolt the same size and pitch so I didn't screw up the tapered screw.

Yea, The Helibars come with instructions on how to get them out. No amount of liquid enticement worked and they are held in by little sprung steel bits that you squeeze together to release these tabs - think ***** on springs like in a socket set (except that they are just tabs). Well mine were brittle and rusted so they just disintegrated when I tried to get them out of the okd bars.

Took the bike for a ride without them today and really now understand why they are necessary for comfortable riding. Nearly vibrated my arms off over 500km. Anyway, hope to get the new ones tomorrow

Nah, those stupid little clips don't really do anything. It's the cast plug with the two rubber doughnuts on them that really hold the thing in. I'm tellin ya, you have to hank the hell out of 'em to get 'em out. They will come out though.

Question Helibars & 05 Hawk

Hey Guys,

I've done several searches and can't seem to find a thread I remember reading a while back. As I recall, the thread indicated that the '05 Hawk clip-ons are the same geometry as Helibars. Does anyone know if this is true, or if there is a difference. I don't want to spend the money on Helibars if they are the same position as the OEM's for '05.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks. Just put 250 miles on yesterday with everything from twisty to interstate. The $10 "Crampbuster" is working out well. I recommend as a try for anyone getting numbness, tingling or cramping in your palms or fingers. An affordable test before spending lots of money and time.

My '05 pisses me off because of the bars. I doubt they are anything like the Heli's.

I think it is the stock VFR bars that are a close approximation to the Heli's. Early 90's thru the 97's - I think.

FYI: All 90-01 VFR bars are 41mm.

What about 2005? Are 2005 41mm? I don't have a ruler on me.

2005 VFR?

All VTR (Superhawks) are 41mm. VFRs might have varied over the years, I don't know.

Well in my case I got the 3.5" rise and got the bars pretty close to stock. I got mine to go with my fork swap. Had I gone with that kind of rise on the stock forks I'd have ended up with a very different riding position.
