Welcome to the forum and to being the proud owner of a SH!

Sounds like either a loose connection or a chafed wire to ground. I don't recall on these ones if it's higher resistance for higher level or the other way around. Check all your connections such as the one front the bank to the main wire harness. Also check to make sure the wires from the tank to that connection are good. If these are all good it could be a bad sending unit.

4-10 empty, 81-91 full. It could be a failing sending unit of the suggestions gts gave don't help.

I'll gain a bar on the fuel gauge on my '01 VTR going from a level road to an ascending one and I'll lose a bar on descents. I try not to take the gauge too seriously.

The connection for the gauge (one of them) is under the front of the seat in that bundle of connections. I could be corroded or loose.

You can also actully reach in the tank and move the float up & down its full range and see if it reads true but there is some lag time between moving it an seeing the result.
