Flat tires!
Flat tires!
Ok ... so I just took my bike to get some new tires put on because the rear tire was flat (looked like a cut valve stem) and the front one just needed replacing.
2 new tires -- Dunlop Roadsmarts.
Rode for a day, everything's fine. Went out this morning, and my front tire is SUPER flat! Glanced at the valve stem, and it looks like it's cut too (the rubber)! I'm pretty certain air is flowing right out of there.
So I'm wondering if there's a problem with the tire or the rim? Or maybe the dealer who put the tire in? Either way, I'm pretty pissed and am gonna see if the dealer/installer is gonna do anything about it.
But anybody else have this issue with the valve stems leaking air out of what looks like a cut in the side of the stem's rubber?

Outside ... but the valve stem (in the back) was cut over a year ago in a different city. I'm doubtful that someone's doing this TO me ... I'm thinking it's an issue with the tire/rim or how it was installed. The dealer said he could replace the valve stem though.
That is cool the dealer is going to change it for you. I'd be a little weary of taking anything else to them in the future. Usually when a tire is replaced, the valve stem is looked at pretty closely before, during, and after it is done. If they can miss something like that, who knows what else they can miss.
Does your wife have a secret insurance policy out on you by chance?
Naw just kidding.
They dont get cut on assembly. No sharp objects are used on or during tire removal/re... unless some tard operating a tire machine gouges it with some tool or something.
I had a cut on my 98 hawks rear stem that when examined up close, could have only have been from a sharp blade of some kind. And at least one individual around there who would have been a mental-midget, enough to cut valve stems... but I refrain from paranoia, and I didnt kill him.

Sweet -- I did not know that! So I'm gonna go ahead and guess that it's not too expensive to replace a valve stem! ALSO, if I just got a full-service tune-up AND my tires replaced by a dealer, wouldn't you think that they'd know to check the freakin' valve stem!? I would have just LOVED to have my front tire blow out while I'm going 70-80 because they didn't check/replace a defective one .... rrrr
Strange coincidence here. I'm doing my monthly tire pressure check yesterday on my bikes and when I got to the rear on the SH it was down to 15psi. Up on the Pit Bull to examine the tire for screws, nails, brads, wire, etc. Found nothing. Hook up the air compressor to the valve stem and reinflate. As I release the air chuck I hear escaping air. Wiggle the valve stem and leak found. Now I have to remove the wheel, clean the swingarm and caliper, break down the tire on my NoMar Pro, clean the rim, refit a new valve stem, reinflate, and remount. Original stem on an early '97 production bike so it may have deteriorated with all the tire changes and pressure checks over the last dozen years or so.
Could be then that they just break down over time... looks like you do all the work yourself! I would like to, but feel like I don't have the know-how or tools (like a stand). But I REALLY hate taking it to other people when I know they don't give a damn whether or not a GOOD job has been done!
How much do stands run? Like one that I can put the bike up on and rotate both the front and back tires?
