Different Handle Bars.....Different Ride

Hi All,
I've changed my handlebars and removed the faring as in the photo.
And I find the handling of the bike less stable than before. Obviously with these modifications I've done (which makes riding the bike more comfortable) the whole riding experience is not the same.
My body isn't deeper into the fuel tank anymore, which is much more comfortable on my wrists, etc.
But, the steering feels more twitchy. And not as solid as before.
I would like to put a steering dampener on, but wanted to know if anyone else had these issues from doing these modifications? And would a steering dampener help?
Thanks,
Geoff

Damper will steadily smooth movement. It will fight quick movements. I have a Scotts which is adjustable and I believe it helped me, but for a different reason. You don't want a damper adjusted for slow speed "twichy-ness" imo.

Are your forks being clamped in the same place as before the conversion?

Thanks for the reply...Yes my forks are in the same position as standard. I guess because I am in a more vertical riding position, the steering feels lighter and twitchy. Just not use to it yet. I will look at that Scotts dampener.

Later.

Make sure your forks aren't tweaked and fork brace is aligned properly

First try raising the fork tubes in the T-Clamps to lower the front and place more weight on the front tire.

If you haven't massaged the front and rear suspension, nowa a good time, as the oem suspension was not even close to the best even for its time.

Some heavier springs, less compression and more rebound from RT Gold Valves along with a half decent shock will go along way.

A steering damper is just a Band-Aid that masks but does not cure the problem.

Carefully selected new black doughnuts could help too.

I could go on....
