crooked handle bars
crooked handle bars
hello everyone i need some help with crooked bars. the bars on my 99 hawk are twisted to the right. i have tried loosening the front forks and straightening bars. they will stay straight for 2-3 rides then go crooked again. the bars were like that when i bought the bike. i cant find anything bent and the forks seem
crooked bars
i haven't torqued the clamp bolts because i dont have any specs. bought bike used so i dont know if its been wrecked. i cant see anything visibly bent and i have no tools to try and take any kind of measurments
I thing the upper & lower triple clamp bolts call for different torque settings, if i remember correctly. I'll have to check the manual. Won't do you much goor w/o a torque wrench tho'.
My son crashed his F4, and had the same problem. Removed the forks, but they were fine. Drove me nuts, until I took the steering stem out - it was bent. New stem, new bearings fixed it.
thanks for the input. i called my local honda dealer and got the specs. i'll post them in case anyone else needs them in the future. steering head is 76ft. lbs. lower fork pinch bolts 36 ft.lbs. upper pinch bolts 17ft lbs. my son & i worked on it last night, got everything straight & torqued. just need some nice weather to ride.
