crooked handle bars

crooked handle bars

hello everyone i need some help with crooked bars. the bars on my 99 hawk are twisted to the right. i have tried loosening the front forks and straightening bars. they will stay straight for 2-3 rides then go crooked again. the bars were like that when i bought the bike. i cant find anything bent and the forks seem

Weird that they ore OK & then not OK. Are you tightening them to the proper torque setting?

something must be loose then. maybe one of the triple clapm bolts. Has the bike been crashed before? Are the forks straight?

i haven't torqued the clamp bolts because i dont have any specs. bought bike used so i dont know if its been wrecked. i cant see anything visibly bent and i have no tools to try and take any kind of measurments

I thing the upper & lower triple clamp bolts call for different torque settings, if i remember correctly. I'll have to check the manual. Won't do you much goor w/o a torque wrench tho'.

i do have a torque wrench. i meant i dont have any tools to measure and figure out if anything is bent. i would greatly appreciate torque specs. thank you.

hehe, ironically i had the same problem a few years back and then i crashed my bike and it fixed the problem. She is straight as possible now hehe, jsut really funny.

My son crashed his F4, and had the same problem. Removed the forks, but they were fine. Drove me nuts, until I took the steering stem out - it was bent. New stem, new bearings fixed it.

The torque spec is 27 newton meters.

thanks for the input. i called my local honda dealer and got the specs. i'll post them in case anyone else needs them in the future. steering head is 76ft. lbs. lower fork pinch bolts 36 ft.lbs. upper pinch bolts 17ft lbs. my son & i worked on it last night, got everything straight & torqued. just need some nice weather to ride.
