Carb removal/rebuild help

I’m new to the website so please forgive me if I’ve missed a previous post about this. After reading up on here I decided to attempt cleaning the carbs myself and actually learn how to maintain the bike. I have gotten to the carbs but before removing I believe I need to remove the choke cable and the throttle cable. I’ve already disconnected one electrical wire harness. I’m scared of breaking the choke cable and wondering what exactly I loosen to get it out. Also I don’t know how the throttle cable setup works at all or how to take it apart. If you think at this point I should turn back and wait for the professionals I will heed your advice. I’ve rebuilt small single carb dirt bikes and such as well as a Quadra jet but never touched anything like this. I’m just impatient and if possible I’d like to get this work done myself. I do not have a manual and am looking to purchase one if you have any suggestions. I’m the type of guy who needs lots of pictures and step by step instructions. Books that say “remove choke cable” without telling me how to do it don’t really help and that’s been a problem I’ve had with Haynes in the past.

Here’s a link to a video that probably won’t help at all but was worth a shot.

ive taken video of all disassembly as I’m probably going to have to do this over a week and I’m not at all familiar with what I’m doing. I labeled all screws and bolts except the inner 8 airbox screws. I had some bigger than others. Is that normal?

If you want to do it yourself by trial and error, do it yourself by trial and error. The only advice I would like give is to use the correct tools, i.e. for the airbox a JIS screwdriver. Otherwise, you will quickly ruin the screws.

PS. the outer 8 airbox screws have different lenght (because the airbox cover has a different thickness at the front). The 8 inner airbox screws (below the trompets) are all of the same size.

If you have Dropbox I can send you the pdf version of the service manual. You can also get the paper version of the manual like I did off of eBay. Mine looked brand new for $38 bucks.

Label all your hoses and wires using painters tape and a sharpy or like I did by using small colored tie wraps to put on various hoses etc.

Throttle cable isn't so bad if you look closely youll see the slot where the cable barrel enters the carb. It'll take some manipulating to remove as they're push/ pull and not cooperative but they will come off and on without having to loosen all the cable adjustments.

I removed the choke with the carb on my bike as I couldn't figure out there's a nut at the end that's removable on both carbs so you don't have to remove the entire assembly as I did. But it still worked out and will be a thrill to reinstall it again. 😂😜. nothing like a challenge. 👍

Once the carbs are removed the rubber gaskets holding the carbs to the engine may be old and brittle as mine were.
They're a pain to remove as there's a groove mid way on the gasket for sealing purposes that make it hard for removal. I'm replacing mine with new and new bands.

Just take your time and label everything and you'll be fine. One tip is to reinstall any screw in its respective hole once something is removed. Less worry about bagging and labeling as it's right where it's supposed to be. Good luck. 👍✌️🤟
