Bigger tank

Hello
I own a 1997 VTR Firestorm, and i want to buy a bigger fuel tank.
Mine have only 16 litres.
I know there is a bigger one- 19 litres, but i can't find to buy.

Thanks!

Ah, the ever elusive 19L tank. They are hard to find.

What you need is a tank from a 2001 or newer European Firestorm. These were the only ones to get the larger tank.

Canadian Firestorms and American Superhawks never got the larger tank. (I do not know if Aussie and Japanese bikes were Euro spec or not)

You do have the option of adapting a VFR tank to our bike, there are several ways to do it and a few write ups on the forum:

Here is my post from an earlier discussion of this mod:

The original was SuperBling:
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ead.php?t=6983
Then KaiJu:
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ead.php?t=7221
Followed by mdbuehler:
https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=18222

The main problem is the VFR tank interferes with our airbox, and They all took different approaches to solving it. Superbling beat the bottom of the tank in to make it clear the airbox, mdbuehler modded the airbox to fit the tank, and Kai Ju raised the tank up to clear the airbox.
Oh, and welcome to the forum (missed that last post)

You can also cut the tank and reweld it.

Yep, Euro models (which we get in Australia) have the 19l tank from 2001 onwards.

The tank will bolt straight on, but you will need the tap (petcock) and fuel hoses that go with it as they are different between models.

Not a bad option if you could repair it. They are not easy to find for sale. I looked for one for months before I gave up and bought a new one from Honda.

Not cheap, they cost about $1,100 AUD!!!!!:eek:

I dunno what gauge steel Honda is using... But I tried doing that to a Honda tank... The steel is a lot thicker and tougher than most others... I fixed up a a tank from a TL... It was like butter... Then I tried a 19L VTR tank... I broke my sliding hammer... :(
