Hawk wont start

The other day I parked my hawk and left the choke open. My friend said I may have flooded the carburator by doing that. Went to start it after that and it fired for a second then cut off. After that the bike wont start at all. Just continues to crank and crank, but no spark. Ideas please.

From the manual: if the engine is flooded, push the choke in, then turn engine switch to off and gear to neutral, then fully open the throttle, and press Start button for 5 seconds, then release and wait 10 seconds. Then, turn Engine cutoff switch back on, and start without choke or throttle, by pushing the start button in Neutral.

Re: Hawk wont start

I would check the usual suspects: first, check the engine cut off switch and make sure it isn't on off. (don't ask.)

then check to see if you are getting any spark to the spark plugs. I would get the top off, put a screw driver into it, keep the screw driver close to the body of the cylinder, and have someone start the bike, and see if it sparks between the screwdriver and the body of the cylinder.

you may very well have flooded the bike, in which case starting it with throttle fully open (as specified in the above post already) should solve your problem.

sorry can't be of more help than this.

Re: Hawk wont start

Haha, yeah I have been guilty of leaving the start switch off before. I wish that was the case now. I tried the way Alic said and still no go. A few times it sounded like it wanted to turn over but just couldnt. At this point Im getting worried that I have tried to start it so much that my battery my run out before this beast ever starts again.

And to top it off, today is like the last nice, warmish day for our area

just make sure you don't over load your starter either with frequent, lengthy starts.
