I think I screwed up

I just painted my helmet and started airbrushing it today. I removed the dot sticker and was told that this was a big no,no. Is it really that big of a deal? If I find a replacement sticker can it be placed somewhere other than the lower back of the helmet?

Never had anyone ask to see a sticker in 25+ years of riding and I've unfortunately had plenty of opportunities for them (LEO's) to ask. I've always peeled them off.

I believe if you check inside the helmet, under the liner, you will find a DOT/SNELL certification sticker. I believe the sticker also includes the date the helmet was manufactured.

I've never had anyone ask to see it either.. If you really need one though... you can go to your local Harley shop. They usually have Non-regulation DOT stickers.. they look VERY close.. for the helmets they use that arent DOT rated.. Harley riders hardley ever use DOT rated helmets.. those little skull cap helmets they use.. Nu-uh.. no way are they DOT..

My $.02...

Wouldnt that affect the performance of the helmet? I guess if you must... be sure to use short screws.. 1/4 to 1/2 inch... so they dont stick into the back of your head... those things would hurt putting the hemet on and taking it off.. Dude, That really doesnt sound like a good idea...

My only concern in regards to Super Glue is its known affinity for steel beams, may be problematic around so overpasses. Of course, there's always Velcro. The advantage is that you could take the sticker off when in a Harley-type crowd and flaunt your apparent disregard for your personal safety, you'd quickly gain a following

The DOT sticker on the back of the helmet isn't needed. The one that matter's is under the liner with the manufacture's date of build on it.

Thanks for the responses. A guy over at Cycle Gear here in Ft.Worth made it seem like a big deal. Either way I already airbrushed over the back of the helmet so there's no going back now, come get me cop'r.

I heard that at some tracks out here (California). Track officials might ask for it to be on there, or something like everyone was talking about on the inside. On the street I don't think that it matters. Just paint a small dot on the lid and be done!

Yeah that's a good idea! I'm doing a jester on the helmet and I'll just put a dot on his forehead.
