Theiving pieces of ****

My friend and I went on a nice ride yesterday around Lock Raven Reservoir in MD, great winding roads right on the water. We stopped at the dam, where there were a few cars parked and people walking around, including a park ranger truck. We both left our jackets/helmets/gloves on our bikes and walked less than 150 feet away, just out of site. We were only gone long enough to take a ****, and look at the water for a few minutes. Come back up, and somebody stole my Jacket and Helmet off my bike! Left my gloves, didn't touch any of my friends stuff. I guess mine fit better?

All i have to say is that I hope whoever stole my gear crashes their bike wearing my stuff. I hope my gear saves their life, but their bike falls off a cliff and catches on fire.

that SUCKS man, the fu*k is wrong with people these days that kind of stuff really gets me heated. and everyone wonders why we get more protective.

you could leave your next helmet and jacket as a trap on your bike (watching from a distance of course) and then jump on the next hooligan who tries to jack your gear to at least feel better about the first set getting stolen.

haha good plan...I might just do that. I wish so much that I happened to look up at our bikes while the dick was grabbing my stuff. It just sucks, I'm a very trusting person, and now i'm going to be worried anywhere I go.

I guess the moral is, if you're going out of sight either take your stuff with you or use the helmet lock.

If anyone could use a FieldSheer XL jacket liner let me know..

now to see what my insurance has to say...hopefully my $500 deductible will get me around $800-$1000 to use for a new seat and wind screen

A good move is to have a lenght of wire with loops on the ends... Stick it through the arm of the jacket and loop it, and then lock it to the helmet lock on the bike... That way you don't have to lug it around and can have both helmet and jacket locked to the bike...

Good idea tweety...i've just used the jacket hang loop before, but that's not much protection, a good tug would probably rip it off...a loop of cable/wire stored under the seat would be perfect, thanks

I don't understand, I know it was just for a minute and there were lot's of people around but you wouldn't have left a hundred dollar bill sitting on the seat of your bike would you? I see people leave helmets and jackets next to or on bikes all the time and wander off for hours. Gear is expensive and easy to walk off with, it's like leaving jewelery or a watch laying around. That being said it's unfortunate that you can't leave a hundred dollar bill sitting on your seat, honest people don't STEAL! Sorry for your loss and I hope the thief finds out all your gear has serious manufacturing defects the hard way.

Oh and I've always wondered about riding home after getting your helmet nicked, what was your solution?

i have a 15 foot cable stored under my seat with a lock to do as tweety mentioned. I run it through the forks and such to lock everything up together.

Don't trust anyone

Sorry to hear that man. My friends always wonder why I lug my **** around with me and this is why. There are a lot of low life people out there these days. Gear is way to expensive to leave behind. On a side note, you ever ride out to Prettyboy Reservoir? There is a beach there and it is a lot nicer than Loch Raven. Get some more gear & give me a call. Tim

Sad state of the world, but same here. I never leave ANYTHING on the bike, no matter how short I'll be leaving it unattended. Did a long ride when I first got into riding years ago, and went upstairs to make a few forum posts (Bandit group back then) came down to get my softbags off the bike (underground garage too!) and somebody had undone them and taken my new winter riding suit. Haven't made that mistake since!

I'm constantly amazed too by the number of people in Seattle at least that leave their gear on the motorcycle after they park it. A decent jacket / helmet and gloves will set you back over a grand...

spladle160- well the park ranger just let us ride off, me without a helmet. There was a Baltimore CO officer and a Sheriff there they didn't say anything. I had a theft report to show. Of course we were waiting to get pulled over, the first two cops we passed didn't even notice, then the third turned around and caught up to us. When i told him what happened he said he heard about it on the radio, then said they shouldn't have let me go, and he made me stay while my friend went to get another helmet for me, luckily we were close to home.

notakawi - prettyboy reservoir is in my backyard, I live in Hereford. You're probably talking about "hillbilly beach" on York rd crossing the gunpowder river. Nice S turns right there. There are a lot of nice places up here.

Don't worry, i'm not going to let this happen again.

Sorry to hear about your theft. I use a cable lock on my gear or carry it around with me fing tea leaves!
What would the officer have done if you lived 200 miles away?
