Rant on Shipping Costs
Why the f^%K is it that people charge you an INSANE amount for shipping, and then when you get your package it is a FRACTION of the shipping charge? and its not like they spent 10 bucks jamming old newspaper in as an expensive "packing" material...into the free box you get from USPS. For Christ's sake.... Im getting sick of this trend. That **** is STEALING. if you want five or ten extra bucks for your (already overpriced) ****....just add it to the price. Don't tell me $15 dollars for shipping, and then when i look at the postage it says $3.50. Its like they think youre going to miss it or lose track of it or just chock it up to a loss...
i mean its not like i don't know it doesnt cost you 10 or 12 bucks to send a t-shirt or pants or a book to me in georgia when youre sending it 9th day ground delivery from tennessee or ohio or what have you....
I think the last 3 or 4 things i have ordered have been like this. it seems to be getting harder to find places that don't absolutely rape you on shipping.
rant over.

Yeah I had some woman want to charge me $50 to mail a single exhaust can from Miami to Boynton where I am about an hour away. I got all over her and still ended up paying 2x what it cost. Geez and I feel guilty when I go over by a couple dollars. Any more and I refund the difference. Some people just put a "flat rate" I guess. I mean a couple dollars to pay for time and tape is ok but any more is bullshit. But on places like ebay I guess I just expect it. Not on here though. On more expensive stuff I'll actually run around and get a best price just to try and be nice, but again it's usually folks with superhawk stuff so I'll try and help out.
I actually got an explanation:
"Consider the part where I had to go down to the post office, stand in line and put the package through"
"...consider that will be the last time I buy from you" was my response.
Well at least the item was sent unlike this bastard:

who change the cost of shipping, made some lame *** excuse that was not enough but made the mistake by saying the amount that was already less than what I had sent. Then dragged it out until the 60 days for dispute expired then not send the item or refund my money

I had a guy ship a windscreen for 29.95. I guess he was pissed it went for 9.95 in the auction. I just give positive and flunk them on the detailed shipping costs and note it in the comments.
any time i have ever shipped anything i ask for exact postage and sometimes i feel bad doing that.....
its not even really that i necessarily have a problem with the total amount...if something usually costs me 30 bucks and i get it for 20 bucks on ebay...but they charge me 10 for shipping, i just figure i break even....however when the package says 2 bucks to ship it pisses me off because, like i said...its dishonest. its stealing.

I always get the exact shipping cost up front and consider that in the equation of whether the item i want is worth it.
If the seller does not post the shipping or will not reply to my inquiry on the shipping costs then i see that as a bad sign and don't bid on the item.
If you use that analogy, you accept the cost up front and are not upset with getting jabbed.

It happens when you deal with Flea Bay.
The shipping cost is where people make their money.
The shipping costs are not part of the surcharge that EBay collects on items sold. So sellers get to fleece the buyers even though the item went under "cost" on auction.
Also, per the sellers side. They are selling an item that could go across the street or across the road. They Flat rate it to the max location to cover any possible shipping locations just to make sure they are not going to be "shorted" on any money from there pocket. The buyer is not in control if you have not figured that out yet.
It is another reason I don't "shop" Fleabay.

I agree with you 100%. Be grateful, however, that you don't have to have stuff shipped across borders because they REALLY bend you over a barrel then. Case in point, I ordered an axle (900RR) from Cycle Therapy, the part cost $25, they charged me $27(!!!!!!!!) in shipping. When the part came in, I noticed it only cost them $7, f***in' crooks!!!
And don't get me started on the brokerage fees charged by the likes of UPS... they make oil executives seem benevolent...
Ok, back to my Zen state.....

I always ask the shipper to ship anything but UPS. Their truck, uniforms and logo are brown because they **** people up the *** all the time.
When ordering from the US, I always specify ship USPS or you can keep it. I refuse to pay the brokerage fees both for financial reasons and as a matter of principle (I refuse to support crooks, exception being having to buy gasoline from the &$%#@*^% oil companies).
I've seen this quite a bit and have always figured it's just them getting more for whatever they're selling. The try and make the auction look good by having a lesser buy-it-now, but it ends up being the same because of shipping costs.
I do think it's stupid- because sometimes there will be that person who doesn't look close at the shipping costs and then feels cheated by a $30 s&h. Me personally I've always done the least expensive shipping cost, and even then I only charge people the postage. It doesn't cost me anything to find a box laying around the house and some newspaper to pack it in.

From someone that has a good amount (200+) of sales on ebay shipping costs can vary for many reasons.
I do lots of international shipping on goods that are collectors items where the condition of the items packaging and the contents inside of if are of the utmost importance. This means that I usually only ship using grade A boxes which are hard to come by unless you buy new boxes. In addition I ship lots of posters which are also very fragile and take lots of care to pack (acid free paper surrounding the poster, use cardboard carpet tubes so they don't get crushed and foam rubber on the cap ends of the poster).
I get lots of praise and complaints about my shipping prices and quality. Some collectors really care about having a mint item and will pay for it where others really don't seem to care.
Even with items that are not packaging sensitive Ebay, PalPal, cardboard box costs, and shipping time spent really does add up. I believe I did about $9000.00 in Ebay sales (shipping included) last year and spent about $1100 Ebay / PayPal fees with another $2000.00 in shipping charges on 90 individual shipments. Consider that Ebay and PayPal fees alone took about 1/7th of my total closing price and it is getting a bit out of hand for these charges IMO.

The drift that I cannot understand is why it costs me $58 to send a header to Jet-Hot and it costs them $28 to send it back to me after coating. ? This gets deeper.
Why are other manufacturer's recalls shipping empty boxes to customers for their returns? Ding, lite comes on, they are a volume shipper. It's in their best interest to be the end user and round trip an empty box for automated return.

I work for the post office, who contract (in case you didn't know) with UPS and Fedex for primary transportation and sorting. I can assure everyone that the situation at the highest volume shipper in the world is totally fucked up and makes absolutely no sense at all. volume discounts to mailers for **** that isn't really presorted so it actually takes us more time to get it to your trash can than to get the letter from your son in Iraq delivered to you for about twice that amount. actually I work the night shift and have to go there in about an hour so I better not even continue.... low on ammo!

+1 on eBay/PayPal getting way too much in fees.
I sell quite a bit of stuff, but shipping overseas is outrageous. buyer will often back out of the sale when they get the shipping charge. Last week a bloke from Australia choked on $41 in Freight on a $15 tank pad, and I wasn't making a dime extra. Had to tell a guy from Germany no on some plastic for his own protection.
