MotoGP @ Laguna Seca!!

I just got my tickets and camping pass for the MotoGP @ Laguna Seca in mail today. Can't wait to go! I'll be camping there from Thursday night until Monday morning.

Who else is going to Laguna Seca this year? Are you camping there too?

Yeah it's great. It's in everyones top 10 list worldwide. Everyone knows the corkscrew. The pass that Rossi made in the corkscrew last year was crazy as well. Hoping for great race this year too. Maybe Stoner will do the passing in the dirt this year.

Anyone else camping there this year?

Yeah I was right there at the bottom of the corkscrew when Rossi made that pass in the dirt. Was awesome to see Ben Spies come in 8th on a motoGP bike too. I hope its going to be a good one this year too.

Have fun at the GP, Moto Man! I used to live about an hour away and made several GPs - great time.

I recommend setting up along the fence between turn 1 (kink coming over the hill) and 2 (big hairpin). Set up early, right on the fence. You won't believe your eyes and ears. They cut the throttle, setting up for T2 and you can actually sit there without earplugs.

I leaned over and told my son to take out his ear plugs and check it out. He grinned and said "I already did".

It's a really good view of the whole track. And you won't believe how hard they go! I saw Colin Edwards win there in WSB and Nicky do it twice in MotoGP.

I've tried all the corners over the years. Even running back and forth over the top of Fox hill to see the corkscrew and the rest of the track. I kind like turn 5 since most of the passing happens there.

I just recently moved to So. Cal. So going to the GP is like going home for me. I used to live in Santa Cruz which is only about an hour from the track.

Anyhow nobody else is going this year?

I think Speed is broadcasting the race, despite no mention of it on their site. (caught this over at ADV) Can anyone confirm?

Fox here as well

Qualifying was on Speed yesterday.

It was kewl watching the qualifying hour, never seen that before.

It was a crash fest for Lorenzo and Stoner as they battled for the pole.

Lorenzo had a heck of a crash in turn 10 and then coming out of the corkscrew. He highsided huge and slamed the ground with his head and knee. He crashed both of his bikes in the session. He couldn't stand after the crash, it was horific.

Then Stoner ran off the track for a tow times in the sessions and then high sided like 10 feet in the air.

Starting Grid: (first 9)
1. Lor
2. Ros
3. Sto
4. Ped
5. Dov
6. Eli
7. Edw
8. Hay
9. Ver

Rossi Quote:

"This track is very difficult, very technical"

Nicky's best finish of the year. Let's hope this is the turning point for him!

+1

And if Colin Edwards ever learns how to start a race he just might win one. I'd love to see it.

Does anybody know what happened to Larry Pegram in the restart of AMA Pro? Why wasn't he on the front row?

I heard after the race that his leathers got torn in the fiasco during lap 1. Was he in the pits changing when they restarted? If so, that sucks.

AMA Pro was a better race than the MotoGP in my opinion. Except for the pace car...that was funny.

I may be completely wrong about this, but was Pegram pulled in for a false start that he didn't 'serve time' for ?

my son theorizes that Colin is too big for the bike relative to the other racers, hence his poor starts and tires going off earlier than the others...

That was bologna

I cant believe that, and he was pissed...

Im more upset that wonderboy won GP. Rossi could have taken him at any time as he showed us in the last lap..

i went in 06.. it was super hot...i have pics of people getting hauled off in the medical golf cart, passed out and dirty from being layed out drunk on the ground..it was fun.

ill post some pics some other time

The false start in AMA Pro was Tommy Hayden. He did eventually go through the pit road, but not until several laps into the race. I think he was protesting the penalty since the a red flag caused a complete restart.

Pedrosa was in fine form, got the breaks he needed and didnt look back.
Makes for a dull race for the lead though.
Congrats to team Honda !

Yup, that's the way I feel. He & Lorenzo are low on personality, but both those guys will race hard even when injured. Lorenzo almost got the big hurt again when he tried to pass Rossi.

Pegram got tied up in that first lap incident. He started from the pits I believe. His finish was pretty decent considering his start. T. Hayden placed well too considering his ride-through.

It's just amazing to me that Pedrosa and Lorenzo can beat themselves up the way they do, then come back charging like that.

To my knowledge, rossi has never missed a race due to injury, and very rarely crashes.

I believe that Pegram had to start at the back of the grid because he had to change bikes after the T2 crash. Everyone else was able to make fast repairs and go out on their #1 bike.

Was a great weekend! Got to do a "Track Walk" with Larry Pegram on Saturday and get his preseptive on the nuances of the track (like the nasty dip on the inside of the turn 6). We also got to "Invade" pit lane after the big race on Sunday. Will post pics and more info soon.

Lorenzo was smooth as silk all weekend during practice and quals. He has the ***** of an elephant to ride in the condition he was in. He had to have 2 guys pick him up off the bike after the race and get him up to the podium.

Colin was looking good in pratice sessions and looked even better in the warm up session on Sunday morning so I was really hoping for a good start from Colin in the race. I really wanted to see him on the podium again. Alas it was not to be...someday!

Incidentally the only reason Rossi got close to Pedrosa on the last lap is that Danni said he saw he had a 2 second gap starting the last lap so he relaxed a bit and was a second down of his pace. When he heard Rossi's bike in turn 11 on the last lap he knew he had been too lax.

Can't get excited about Pedrosa. Can't get excited about Honda winning even though I own a Honda. I don't like the way they do business and I don't like the way they run their race program.
The current shitty formula was devised by Dorna and Honda so that midgets like Pedrosa would win. So far, he hasn't won a championship, although he almost cost Honda a championship because of his stupidity, and I hope that continues. Meanwhile, normal sized (almost) human being Rossi continues to dominate and win championships regardless of whose bike he rides.
