Cooler Heads May yet prevail
Both Superbike Planet and Roadracing World are reporting a deal in the works to keep Superbike as it is with a change to WSBK technical rules.
The source claims no spec tire or fuel as in the other classes ( I think Dunlop has close friends in the industry and within MIC not to mention years of rider support ). Interestingly both publications claim to have spoken with Roger Edmondson and he neither confirmed or denied the rumor.
Interestingly the source is someone in power at a roadrace venue and quite coincidentaly there was a published interview with a senoir exec at Laguna Seca 2 days ago that basically said what most of us already know..without OEM participation 2009 would be a bust. And with 3 of the 4 Japanese OEM's willing to sit out 09 or worse yet start a new series what do you want to bet that one of these type people picked up the phone and called Bill France ( Edmondson's employer ) and basically said to rein in the pit bull approach to deal making in favor of enlightened self interest.
It's still too early to know anything for sure but hopefully cooler heads will prevail and soon!

Ducati North America CEO Michael Lock has the most level headed, cautiously optimistic outlook and understanding of the situation that I've seen so far:

I like the inclusion of the 1200cc Twins. Now we might see some more European bikes in the paddock. And its nice to see they made a spot for the 675 Triumph in Daytona Superbike.
Also this means that the MotoCzysz can race too if they can sell enough to qualify.
