What this wire?

Putting my paper weight back together last night I noticed there was one wire I couldn't find a connection for. It is on the bottom of the tank directly below the gas cap. Any ideas? I though maybe the fuel low light in the cluster but it didn't seem to be attached prior and that light worked before I lost a cct.

There's a fuel gauge connector from the tank that joins up with the main loom back from the tank nr the battery.

If it goes to the square plate with 4 nuts holding it to the tank, kind of below cap then it's the fuel level gauge. It generally runs under the foam padding stuck to the bottom of the tank and under the back mount into the cluster of connectors directly behind the tank and under the seat.
