Suspension mods and new front brakes done

All I can say is wow bike feels totally different.
I installed .95 springs for my fat ***, Race tech GV2 gold valves 10 wt oil in the front forks lowered the triples about 6mm Ohlins shock in the rear and GSXR 1000 6 piston calipers on the front end.

The bke now feels extremely stable everywhere, my turn in was incrreased ( almost like oversteer) old sharp bumps are gone and replaced by little up/down movements.

The caliper swap was the easiest mod I have ever done to anything.
Now that I have done the suspension I see how bad the stock one was.

Watch your chicken stripes. You'll be amazed when you go for a relaxed ride in the twisties and find how much you were leaning over. It'll be so much easier now. Course, fork swap is always a good way to spend money.

I've had the same experience. When you make an inprovement you realize how hard you had to work/push it before. Before long you'll want even more!

Shock? What shock? Oh, you meant that boat anchor our back?

Penske rear shocks are affordable compared to Olins and they are reabuildable, so keep your eyes open

What year GSXR 1000 6 piston calipers did you use?

Cool! Yeah once you do it, you realize...

For a street bike, I always say a fork brace is the ticket. $150 or so more and you're there. It is a huge difference to be able to twist the big gyroscope of the front wheel without chosticking the fork (for lack of a better word). It is a very obvious improvement.

+1 on the Penske shock.

Woking on bikes is so much better than working on cars. Such simple, elegant, fantastic machines.

With all due respect, I'd have to say that is matter of opinion, and maybe even a stretch at that. Even when you add the "compared to Ohlins" part is pretty tough to say that ~$1000 is 'affordable' for most people.

I'm not referring to 'value' here. Certainly you get what you pay for with a Penske or Ohlins, and then some.

What other year GSXR 1000 calipers will fit a 2005 VTR? Any late model GSXR 1000?

Congrats on your mods. I just got my forks shipped back to me from Greg. 1.0 springs and his magic with the valving. When the temp jumps up above -10 degrees, maybe I'll hit the garage and start putting things back together. I also swapped calipers(F4i) and MC (900RR) and I am adding SS Spiegler lines. I have everything here, just need to put it all back together. It'll be a few months before the weather permits a ride though...

Do you need to purchase a GSXR1000 front brake lever for the front brake swap?

Nope, but I'm guessing the GSXR1000 MC is radial so it would be a great improvement!

Is the ohlins the same length as OEM? Did you measure how much the fork mods raised your front end over OEM? How did mods affect the sidestand/bike angle?

thanks, nathan
