Running way to rich

Just bought a 2003 vtr 1000 with danmoto carbon slip ons and it was "allegedly" jetted, but I am goin through fuel like no tomorrow. Also a buddy said he could smell Fuel while riding behind me... The thing backfires on decell and seems to not like rpm's below 2500... It also has a K&N filter... I new to v-twins but have been working on quads forever so I understand jetting, or at least I think I do... Please help!

search the forum, there isnt really anything good to say about the K&N filters. stock works better on our bikes, also below 2500... they really dont like that either, on average i get 34 mpg give or take a couple and when im riding aggressively in the twisties/track i get 23-26

there is a great carb setup thread here done by a long standing member under the knowledge base and its the go to for any carb issues/setup for the SH

cheers, and welcome to the forum

Start with 8541Hawk's "carb setup" thread- no matter what you'll have to get into the carbs, so may as well see what you have sooner than later. A baseline proven standard setup (like his) is a good way to go if it's been modified but you don't know how.

K&N plus aftermarket jet kit are recipes for trouble... not to say they can't work, but getting them right is not easy...

+1 on the 2500, this bike has deceivingly low torque which fools you into running it like a Harley, but really should be run above 3krpm like a proper sport bike.
