pics of my linkage for the RC51 swingarm conversion

Well I finally had time to take the linkage off the bike and take some pics of it next to some stock linkage. I know a few people have asked about it.

Mr. Billet,

thank you much appreciated.
we have gone about our linkage differently.
how does yours ride?
i was using stock rc linkage ratio.
cut side plates from steel using stock piece as template.
i will see if i get the sag right when im done.
if so time for test ride!

thanks again

Yes I cut a new engine tie bar to set the ride height back to stock. With the modified linkage the bike sat to low, almost falling over when on the side stand. The linkage ratio has been changed slightly and ended up with a better ride. You don't feel every bump in the road anymore.

Mr. Billet as I said before thank you for the pics.
so from the sound of it, the new tie bar is shorter?

.312...that's Imperial!! Shame on you, you should have used .315 which is 8mm. I just HAD to throw that in there.

That's because in older threads pictures was lost due to a server crash... And since those members haven't been active since before the crash the pictures will probably never be restored...

I'd look elsewhere for advice anyway since the one he built me "with a jig" off his never fit worth a **** ever after mailing it back to him. Had no problems keeping my money though...

ok. i am just looking for as much info as possible on these rc51 swingarm swaps as i have a sp2 swingarm & would like to do a swap one day. But i dont like the thought of welding the swingarm anyway, if i try this it will be the bolt on version of the likage.

Huh?! I'm sposed to be sleeping...

It's not that hard... You just unbolt one part and bolt the other in... And then you fiddle a wee bit...

BTW when are you done fiddling... I wanna find out if you like your new bike...

Thanks HAWXTER996 for the call for help !

I have most of the parts of the puzzle, ( SP2 swingarm, SP2 rear wheel, SP2 rear brake caliper/brake line & brake bracket, SP2 rear axle, SP2 sprocket hub ) & i understand the concept of the alu block chunk with 2 plates bolted on. I guess i would just like too see a photo of it.

I don't want to ask TWEETY to much as he has all ready said it is "do at own risk" ! & that's cool , but i have seen lots of pics of the welded version, but would like to see photos of the bolt on version.

I will do a thread on my build one day, but at the moment i have just moved interstate & all our stuff including my Firestorm & parts are in storage while we are waiting for our house to sell so we can then buy a new house, until then i just have to wait patiently. But i am still trying to get as much info on the bolt on version as possible.

So i keep looking .

Oh, ask away... If you can phraise a thought out specific question so that I know that you know what you are talking about, I'll gladly answear it to the best of my knowledge... A very general question which means I'll have to outline the whole procedure however I will not... (w hich is somewhat what hawkster did when I asked him a while back, this was after all his ideas... I just got finished before him...)

On the other side of the equation... I have now put little over 700 miles on my bike since the swap... Some of those being a track day with pretty hard riding... And when I tore it down to go over it millimeter by millimeter I could find nothing wrong... So I'll call it a success and keep riding... I'll let you all know if I end up in a ditch on account of the swap...

O.k, thanks Tweety.

Question 1. Do you have or can you get photos of the Aluminium block chunk with the two plates bolted on version of this linkage ?

Question 2. With the Aluminium block chunk with the two plates bolted on, what do you think is the best material to use for the two plates ?

Question 3. How thick would you make these plates ?

Thanks.

And now a question for Hawxter996,

How did your stock RC linkage ratio work out ?

I can probably snap a few pics next time i meet up with that bikes owner to ride... Considering the 3-4 feet of snow it may take a while though...

I made the plates from 3 mm or 4 mm steel (probably 3 but I don't remember accurately)... I would not use alu... It's good in chunks but not as plates, in terms of mechanical stress/strength...

Thanks Tweety, I am really looking forward to doing this swap !
And showing you how it all turns out.

Just wish our real estate agent would hurry up & sell our house so i can get my hands on my Firestorm that is locked away in storage.

Hawxter996, sorry you still haven't finished after 3 years. I hope all is well with you. And your problems aren't too serious.

I hope it doesn't take that long for our real estate agent to sell our house, i really want to get into this swap.
