Ignition upgrade

I'm just trying to find out what's involved in switching out the stock spark plug wires to Nology's Hotwires. I was told by my parts supplier that on most motorcycles the wires and the ignition coils are one piece.

Any other ideas on ignition upgrades out there?

Re: Ignition upgrade

There is a mod to remove the resistor inside the spark plug wire cap, I removed mine and it seems to have a bigger spark than it did before by looking at it - no concrete proof. Another thing is the ignition advancer swapout with a +2 or +4 degree one, they claim the '02s and later have more spark advance in them already and the isn't as useful for those models. search the forum for these mods and you will likely find some information.

Re: Ignition upgrade

By removing a resisor you're lowering your coil's resistance. Doing so will eventually fry the CDI.

Re: Ignition upgrade

I have read somwhere that the nology wires are all hype, and adspeak.
They don't perform as advertised.
