Me Too

I have just got a couple of double overhead "slap shafts" in the mail. I had to use my Klingon bat'leth to open the package.

Thanks... But I belong to a Karate Club and my Instructor is Japanese. I do appreciate your and the forum's help on other matters though.
On the specs that came with the Cam Shafts, it gives the BTDC and the ABDC for the stage 2 Moriwaki cam shafts.
Here they are if anyone needs to know:

IN BTDC 30 degrees ABDC 60 degrees 11.1mm 0.20mm +/- 0.03mm
EX BBDC 50 degrees ATDC 25 degrees 10.5mm 0.31mm +/- 0.03mm

Hey Mike
On your STG 1 upgrade with Mori Pistons, what are you using to deglaze the cylinder walls. I have my ideas, but I am concerned not to get too carried away with glaze busting on the Honda VTR. What are you going to do with your Mori Pistons in this respect.

Reguards

The engine I am putting them in has fairly low miles, between 10-15K, so I plan on just using a ball hone and some WD-40 to do a quick deglaze and that is about it.
You don't want to get too carried away, just enough to have something to let the rings seat.

So whats the deal? Oversized pistons or high compression? What else involved? Cams, what else?

Little Glazy over this...

Hi All...on this thread
The VTR Engine has 26,000 miles on it. There is no ridge at the piston ring end point. You can still see the original honing marks from the factory, but there is, obviously, glazing from the mileage above...so I wanted to have a nice surface for my new standard ring set and JE 11.5:1 pistons. Also I have the Mori STG 2 cams to go along with this project, which you Guys had put on this forum.
Also to add to this upgrade....my wife wants to divorce me....No only kidding...just trying to explain to her...money spent on my bike...is less money I spend on beer.
Here is a little story....
I have a Triumph speed triple 2012 which was my go to bike, road and track, but after a friend dropped his bike on the track, about $2,500 of damage, I decided to get a track bike only. Well....did a little research (Thanks to this forum)...and purchased a 04 Black VTR with 21,000 miles for $2,300 in great shape. The very first ride...and I am in love with this bike, and I have had many bikes. So I decided to get another VTR that had been dropped ($850.00) and use this engine as my track engine. I have stripped this bike down, like a Newly Wed, and have decided to rebuild the whole bike (which cannot be done to my wife) and make it like new. So, to keep my marriage intact, I have to sell my Beautiful Triumph (which is a great bike) that way I do not have to live in the Garage. It's cold in Boston right now.
Sorry to bore you guys...later.

So youre gonna build the mori motor with new pistions and install it in the track only bike? It sounded like you were going to put it in for the track. (motor swaps on this bike are no small feat). Are you track day or gonna race it?

I have a spare vtr motor and am so tempted to do similar mods to swap it back to my daily rider. Keep us posted as to the process and outcome. I'll be watching.

I am restoring the dropped bike for Track Days....because changing motors around...well it's fun to work on, but the engine are so much part of the frame work. You really don't get any idea of how much until you start doing it. These bikes are so simple but time consuming when you start to play with the engine, it's not like can just drop the engine out of the frame...when it's part of the frame. So one bike for street..no changes, the other bike for the track. When I need to check the upgraded bike, just swap the plates and keep away from the police.
I am just a track day guy. I have been to Palmer which is good, and had the luck to go to the "Motor Sports" track in NH, near the white mountains.....What a Track.!! Hopefully they will do another bike track day.
I have done all the front end modifications on the standard suspension...especially when I weigh 220 lbs, thanks to the forum. On rear suspension I have installed a new Nitro unit, which has been the most expensive part..so far. I have done the 600 F4i brake upgrade with the master cylinder, which leaves me with the carb setup. Well...the previous owner was a real cowboy, purchased a jetting kit and installed it incorrectly.

Cool enough. But I'm not sure how your weight is thanks to the forum.....hehe.
My home track is Loudon NH. I have some campers that live there. Only race at Loudon, haven't tried the other NH tracks.
