GEARING QUESTION

I was in the process of buying a 520 convesion when the salesman at kneedraggers said that the best gearing for my hawk is to go one down in the front and 3 up in the rear??? What will my top speed be if I do this. He told me that it would change my ration to 2.87 but I have no idea how to determine top speed.

there is a spreadsheet floating around here somewhere....

I'll check my computer, but try doing a search for it on the site.

try this

I'm down 1 in the front, stock in the rear, and haven't seen above 150. A combination of not enough road and not enough ***** I guess. Plus I can't imagine it will push much past that anyway.

a bunch of us run -1/+2. it's good for the moutain roads but those that do a lot of highway miles don't like the rpm increase. so it depends on how/where you ride. if you do change the gearing you'll need a speedohealer to correct for the gearing change.

looks like i stopped just in time : )

Drop one in the front and leave it. still usable on the slab to get to where you need to, but lowers the gearing enough to make exiting corners a bunch more fun.

Top speed?? Well unless it's modified motor making a bunch more HP then stock,, My speedohealer corrected speedometer and GPS say, 148 is all it's gona do give or take some wind with the 15/41 gearing.. Your results will differ

I may try the added 43 in back, just to do it.. but I do not imagine I'll like it much... To many HY miles at 70~80 MPH between turns in TX

I have tried many combos over the years (16/43, 15/41, 15/43, 15/42). I am currrently running 15/42 but will be going back to 15/43 next chain and sprocket change. I do a lot of highway miles and do not find the last two set-ups (in the list above) to be disruptive.

cheers

I've run the 15/43 too and would recommend 16/43 which probably feels a lot like 15/42 others are running...

The 15/43 is just too buzzy for me...RC
