Front end swap

ok so i've never posted at this site before. and honestly i haven't really been keeping an eye on it till lately. i need help doing a front end swap. i would like to know what i need to get if i need a 929 or a 954 or a rc51 front end. what parts i need to do it, i mainly want to do just the brakes, so i would like to know the easiest way to do rotors and calipers, and lines. maybe a fork swap, whatever i need please help. thanks.

welcome to the board. I am sure I speak for many when I say your best first steps are using the search tool - its actually very good. Some questions are redundant and hard to get enthusiastic responses on the 100th question about brake and front end swap. use the search, see what you think and when you have a more specific question or issue post it and you'll get all the help you need. Also, introducing yourself is a good idea at first too. there are some really excellent experienced people on the board that can help with many things. I know I have saved myself a lot of blundering trial and error with their help.

If your looking for inproved braking... you might wanna try the Steel Braided Lines, EBC HH Pads for a minimal quick and easy upgrade...

Then a RC51 Master Cylinder and RC51 Caliper swap.... for a more "substantial" mod/upgrade (with the steel line and EBC pads) that makes the braking better than stock... if you wanna try something slightly more invloved...

Your last resort is a forks swap, as it's VERY involved...

Each one of those mods are easily reseached in the search feature....

Try "Brake Overhaul" I think that was my RC MC and Caliper swap post...

You can also do a 954, F4i or 600RR caliper/master cylinder swap. These parts are basically the same (identical, in the case of the 954 and 600RR) as the RC parts and are usually easier to find.

Brake Redundancy?

So can I use RC51 calipers with F4i/954/929 MC?

I think the 954/929 MC is a larger diameter... don't know if that woudl be better or worse.... Not sure about the F4i... but the CBR 600 RR has almost identical calipers to the RC... so that MC might be a good swap.

2003-2004 CBR600RR mc 11/16” (17.4625 mm)
caliper pistons 32mm/30mm

2000-2001 CBR929RR mc 19mm
caliper pistons 34mm/30mm

2002-2003 CBR954RR mc 11/16” (17.4625 mm)
caliper pistons 32mm/30mm

2000-2001 RC51 mc 19mm
caliper pistons 34mm/32mm

2002-present RC51 mc 11/16” (17.4625 mm)
caliper pistons 32mm/30mm

1999-Present CBR600F4(i) mc 5/8” (15.87mm)
caliper pistons 34mm/32mm

It looks like after 2002 Honda settled on the 11/16" master cylinder coupled with the calipers with 32mm/30mm pistons. I have the F4i setup (as well as the 600RR setup), which should provide a little more leverage at the expense of more lever travel and I like it a lot.

I thought there was more to it than this regarding the calipers actually matching up to the SHawks forks and rotors? Am I wrong, are all of these direct bolt ons?

No you are correct, the only direct fit calipers are actually the 01-02 GSXR 1000 calipers. All the others mentioned DO need to be ground down to clear the mounts, not a big deal but not direct fit either. There are pictures and descriptions on what needs to be done.
