Frame Slider Help

I don't want to start a long drag out post...just need some quick guidance on frame sliders. I'd prefer not to do cutting, drilling etc., IF possible, but will do what it takes. I searched and someone recommended Spiegler's, but the link to thier sight doesn't state whether they just bolt on or if I'll need to cut etc. I need to have the dealer put them on and prefer to minimize surgery. Nothing flashy, Just function and quality.

It seems like the more common long ones (black toilet paper rolls as someone stated...) might be real squirrely in a crash if they catch anything. Pavement crack, small pothole etc. Reminds me of stories of RWD car driveshafts breaking at the front, then polevaulting the entire car when they catch something.

Also, will crashing one of these bikes w/out sliders trash the radiators?

Thanks...counting down picking up my new bike on Thursday.

I have the LSL's and love them. No surgery required and solid as can be.

Just remember they are not the cheapest out there. Check out http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/FrameSliders.cfm

LSL all the way. BTW, if I remember correctly you are getting a crated blue '03? the LSL blue is a great match.

Yes, a blue 03, in the crate. I was looking at the colors and thought. I'll probably do blue, silver or black. Spiegler has them for $59, $79 for Chrome and Carbone Fibre.

I'm getting fired up! Can't wait to get away from work and pick this thing up.

Not a bad price, but if I remember correctly, in addition to the sliders, you have to buy the mounts. The sliders themselves are universal, and the mounts depend on what type of bike you are mounting them on. I think the whole setup cost me about $115 maybe. Don't remember exactly.

You can do the install yourself. Nothing to it, just take your time and follow the directions, which aren't bad. You have to remove a few of the motor mount bolts, which are replaced by the longer ones in the kit which hold the slider mounts.

I took a leap and ordered the blue, not knowing if it would match or not, but I'm happy with it. It sits VERY close to the fairing, so take that into account when you pick a color also.

If you need pics give me a minute. If I had seen this earlier I had the front fairing set off my bike which would have made pics easier and a lot more detailed. Just got done putting it back together.

Some of those shots make it look as if it's rubbing on the fairing...Is it?

Is that big Allen bolt a 6mm or bigger? I have to pack tools and don't want to lug around an 8mm if I don't have to.

May be a different thread...but I'd like to know what tools to pack that won't be in the tool kit w/the bike. I have a flat repair kit. Riding 1000 miles or so, estimate.

Hi check my foto gallery for my frame slider 6 inc ext each side and easy to modify. What i do: i bought 1 set of kawi zx 10 slider just for their off set(ebay from motoearth) and bought 2 one for honda cbr 954 chrome-derlin screw in pucks( S and D, those companies sold lot of slider on ebay) and saw off 1 side of extension of slider and then glue it to the others kawi off set extender( these off set from kawi zx10 will clear off your fairings) sound complicated but in fact it easy if i can do it you can do it. (i' m not much of a skill person)

Hi vern, I also have a Penske rear shock and i hide my shock reservoir behind mud flapper which i remove off the bike and used 2 zip ties to secure it so my reservoir never got scratch or scuff from the clamps just my 2 cents.

The bracket has a threaded spot that matches up to the fairing bolt hole. I had just put the fairings back on and had not got them back in yet.

Do the motrax sliders come with the "no cutting fairings" brackets? Also for the LSL sliders I assume I have the VTR1000F model if it's a 1998 in the US?

Lsl

I ordered my LSL's from spieglerusa.com out of Dayton, OH. I have a feeling they are the importer for LSL. LSL is acronym for three different German guy's names. The guy I talked with said they did clear the fairing. Looking at about $140 or so for the whole setup. I don't have them yet but they should be in Denver when I pick up my bike.
