Engine Performance Mods

In the Next few weeks I'm disassembling my VTR to get many Parts powder coated. My question is should I or should I not try to pump up the horse power of the motor or just leave it alone.

Another note are there mods that I can do Myself to Increase HP. One of my main goals for this is over the years I have increased the weight of the bike by about 50 Pounds. That is with the rider on top who has decided in the last few years food has become his new ****.

I"m having friend build me a belly exhaust which should cut back some of the weight.

Any tips or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Are you after tmore op end horsies or more lower/midrange?

The rider losing weight will be a cheaper performance mod than spending on performance parts, tuning and carbon fibre / titanium.

Re. "belly exhaust" Will you be rejetting, experimenting with air filters and dynoing to suit the new exhaust? as you could feasibly alter the performance characteristics and not necessarily for the better by bolting on a different exhaust.

How deep are your pockets?
VTR1000F Stage 1A to 3 110 – 150 BHP. A truly great riding experience. The Stage 3 was raced by Mark Ditchfield and “guest” raced by Gus Scott in British Superbikes. This was reported in Performance Bikes as ‘a fantastic ride’. This is truly a great bike.

Moriwaki VTR

My Honda Factory Moriwaki ST3

My Moriwaki ST1 Track Bike

IMHO It'd be more cost effective to get a more modern lighter, and powerful bike.

More on top end horsies to be honest or maybe ill just go on a diet.

As far as the belly pan exhaust I am going to have to experiment with it. Adding more baffles, chambers to increase back pressure and also to try and achieve the sound I am comfortable with. Once i dial that in ill have to experiment with jetting it and air filters. i currently have a K&M filter.

I'm sure ill spend way too much time to achieve the look and sound i want.

As far as money goes I am right at that borderline of more money than brains.
I have about 7 bikes I mess with but the VTR is my favorite.

Lightened flywheel is a good one, have a look at Mr Marquez's posts.

Also a 4 Degree ignition advancer.

Both help to access the available power quicker.

High comp pistons and a bit of head work.

Sync carbies and adjust TPS

Coil on plug mod etc etc.

I also have an electric water pump, removed anti rattle gear, and no water pump gear or chain, all allow the bike to spin up quicker and power is more accesable. That is it comes on quicker. Really howls when you get up it but it is not everyones cup of tea however I like it.

All of this can be found on this forum.

It just depends on how far you want to go.

I have all of the above and more. Be careful it can become an addiction.

The good thing is that every change you make can be felt.

Also don't overlook the suspension and brakes.

A good suspension and brake package beats outright power every time.

Good luck and post some before and after pics if you can please.

All very good advice and there seems to be a few things here i can do myself.
Does Marquez still lighten flywheels. If so should I message him privately or is that not appropriate. I am new here and don't want to step on any toes.

As far as before and after pics I do have a bunch of pics right now but there mostly of pics of parts spread all over my shop. Besides I'm pretty sure most here have seen plenty of Supers stripped down.
When I start to get things coming together i will post pics of the progress.

There is allot I want to do to this bike but I will do it over time I'm just trying to get some of the things done while its stripped. I am very eager to get her back on the road.

I just received my lightened flywheel from Mr. Marquez, so I feel it's safe to say he's still at it. Shoot him a PM.

As we say here in Oz, "That's what it's all about"

We may have all seen plenty of pics of Hawks in various states of undress, however everyone approaches their bikes from different angles!

No two are the same and that is part of the allure of this bike

Forums like this are places that are a sort of "google centre" because no matter what you are contemplating doing someone else has already done that and it saves you heaps of time as well as tribulations.

The trick is to take what you want and contribute as you go so as to help fellow owners to modify their bikes to suit their own individual applications.

Like I said we all benefit from each others experiences and I can guarantee that no two Hawks are ( we call them Storms here) the same because we are all require different things from our bikes.

Go for it mate, and show us what you do!!!!!!!!!!

P.S I have had mine for almost 2 years and it's nowhere near finished because every time I ride it I think of something else!!!!!!

Leave it alone. You won't make it enough better to justify the time and expense. I know.
