Chain / Sprocket set up
Can someone recommened a good chain sprocket combo for my 99 SH.
Is the OEM a good ratio?
We sometimes have long stretches of highway to get to the twisties so I am thinking about dropping a tooth or two on the rear sprocket so I am not screaming the motor on long highway runs.
I am not sure of whats on the bike now but it is ready for a new chain sprocket set and I was hoping that someone here has some insite on dropping a tooth or two.
Thinking about going with a DID 530 chain and steel sprockets, any thoughts on the 530 and using Steel vs the Aluminum rear sprocket.
Any thoughts on chain lube as well.
Thanks in advance SIRR1

On thing that all on the site will agree on... The VTR eats aluminium sprockets... They simply don't last... Either go for a steel sprocket or something like the supersprockets, with steel teeth...
The part no-one will agree about... The ratio... That's pretty much an endless discussion...
The OEM ratio is about as far as you will want to go on a stock engine... Going higher means the fifth gear is faster than the sixth, as it won't freely rev to redline in sixth then... It's labouring to do so as stock, but does it, barely...
Going lower... Well, I'm not sold on it... Others are... Your choice...

I commute and have long stretches of straight hwy too, and stock ratio has never seemed bothersome. I just bought JT and Sunstar steel sprockets with an RK x ring chain off of amazon.com pretty reasonably priced.
