Turn signal quick disconnect plug harness

After having my front fairing on and off about 10 times in the last few weeks, I've decided that the OEM butt connectors for the turn signals are a pain in the ***. So I thought about cutting them off and soldering in a simple 3 prong connector. Then I figured a harness would be a better idea and would keep the VTR harness intact and OEM.

So I'm going to get some butt connectors that fit the OEM harness, and wire them to a 3 prong plug. I should be able to hook up all the butt connectors, then when taking off the fairing it would just be one plug to disconnect for each blinker.

Just looking for feedback, has this been done before? Good idea? any drawbacks i'm not thinking of?

If anyone is interested maybe I could make a few sets of harnesses..

Sorry to say, been there done that, 10 years ago...swapped the front TS to the rear after running the 3rd wire for rear TS/RL and put LP Type 3 FM TS/RL in front, run a headlight modulator, 10 LED tail light OE gut job, license plate surround neon auxiliary brake light, twin 55w halogen driving lights, plus added a low-tone Fiam horn 180 degrees to the OE, and more...

I've debated chopping mine out and putting in Deutsch connectors.

Wow that's a lot of light work. Yea I figured it had been done one way or another. What is your headlight setup like? Twin bulbs in the OEM housing? I put in a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra (60/55w) bulb, which is much better than what was in there, but I still want more...I'm considering a bi-xenon HID retrofit this winter..

Do your signals have one connector for each signal? My lights have 3 butt connectors each, which takes a few minutes to get all 6 together fully....I want to wire them to a single plug which will be much easier to connect.

I did the very same thing about two weeks ago, using trailer wiring harnesses. Fairing removal is now quick, easy and the re-install is idiot-proof....

My 98 does not...must have been one of the changes in the newer models.

Locally, go to any NAPA (No Actual Parts Available) and get some GM Weather Pack connectors.
For 2 wire set ups you'll need
2 each 784522 male connectors
2 each 784521 female connectors
1 pack 784517 silicone cable seals
1 pack NW 725171 Wire Terminal, GM Weather Pack Series OEM Terminal; 14 - 16 ga Male
1 pack NW 725170 Wire Terminal, GM Weather Pack OEM Series; 14 - 16 ga female

You will also need a set of crimper's used for these type of connector terminals..
MATCO has a ok pair MC93150.

Once you start using water proof, secure connectors on your wiring projects... you'll never go back.

If you can wait a bit. Eastern Beaver sells Motorcycle OEM style connectors, which are a bit more compact then the Weather Pack Auto style

EDIT NOTE: My Part numbers are straight off the NAPA packaging... but they do not show in the online catalog.. Most Napa stores have a elec area with these Weather Pack connector parts sitting out,, choose what you need or go ask.
