Street-Fighter Superhawk anyone?

Hey Guys,
I have a 98 Superchicken that I don't want to part with but my back has different ideas.
Anyone know of a streetfighter kit for our bikes? I saw the Spiegler kit for $450.00 bucks but thats just too rich for my blood. I was thinkin more on the lines of buyin a used upper clamp on Ebay, drilling some holes and mounting a set of Honda CR250 bar clamps with a set of Pro Tapers. Anyone heard of this? I know I'll be needing longer hoses for the clutch and brake but what about those throttle cables? I guess it depends on what kind of mx bars i bolt on and how wide they are, right?

Every time I yank off the nose/headlight/windshield assembly I cant help but wonder if anyone has streetfightered one of these yet as she still looks bitchin even naked-naked! (Radiators hangin' low and all..)

ANYONE SEEN A COMPLETED PROJECT YET?
I just read the lastest Cycle World mag where the guy bought an older 98 ZX9 and did the very same thing. He's talking about putting SpeedTripple headlights on it and calling it a day.
If I could change the riding position to more like the FZ1 or Bandit 12, I'd never think of selling her again.
Any help would be mucho apprecitated.
Cheers!

superbling pioneered a low cost change to superbike bars, which I and others on the forum have implemented. Search in the how to section.

I am in the process of converting my hawk to a KTM 990 Adventure type of ride. I'm on the third set of handlebars (superbikebend to Daytona bend to Nighthawk bend) to get it upright enough for my 67 year old back. Then I have to redo the seat to eliminate slide forward.

You can get to superbike bend without changing the brake lines. Any higher and you will need longer brake lines.

I have some pictures in the gallery of the superbike bar conversion.

check out threads started by Kai Ju - his street fighter build looks great IMHO. And if you're looking for a cool headlamp, try using a VW Beetle headlamp like Goldammer used in his Norton Manx tribute. http://www.goldammercycle.com/hispeed/gallery.php?g=0

Yeah.... that's a good one.... Moving the rads is key on the "naked" bikes... would love pics of the rad location and how he did it...

Smile What did you do with the radiator ?

Wait, are you telling me this thing is watercooled ?
All you have to do is disconnect the temp gauge and it stops overheating..............

All joking aside, the radiator is living happily under the seat, where it belongs.

One of the best mods on the forum and says it works good in SoCal. Is that a stock oil cooler up front?

I agree with the others - you go naked you must deal with the radiator issue. They are just butt ugly on the sides without the fairings.

I actually like the look of the side-mounted radiators - very industrial - and it doesn't look like anything else. I just grabbed a set of '85 Gixxer headlights off of ebay for $15 and I'll be mounting those to my cut-down front fairing frame over the winter. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Hardly industrial - they're a sitting duck to any ***** wearing boots, or gloves, or a helmet.

The oil cooler is Kawasaki ZRX-6 purchased on e-bay for ten bucks.
Stock Kawi fittings on the cooler end and VTR fittings on the engine side adapted to aeroquip lines.

Hi Superjetin

We have a very nice VTR Fighter in Germany. The owner of this bike is called Jägermeister.

Here you can have a look at the thread:

Tom, can you share some pics of your effort to convert your bike to the KTM Adventure? I was thinking of that bike myself... but I'm not sold on the looks.... so I thought of twisting my hawk into soemthing like it just like you.

Hey, i'm very much into streetfighter bikes, and i'm trying to build my own right now. the radiators really look ugly without fairings, so I decided to cut the fairing down and mount some kind of fighter headlight ( not decided yet ) But i'd like to see some pics of your cut-down fairing... done already?
