Rear fender reduction?

Rear fender reduction?
One gripe I have with my 2000 VTR is that the rear fender looks like it's off an old army bike! Anyone have any experience of chopping down the fender or fitting an aftermarket piece?
Any advice welcome - cheers!

hey man i know you're new so ill go easy on you, but do a search we've discussed this like 20 times on here already and i just joined in February, anyways with that aside
here's what i did, this is all before the mototech undertail
i took everything off
trimmed it to very minimum
Filled in All the holes including the lock cylinder
Painted The Whole Thing Flat Black
Then I Driled a Hole On The Under side for the Lock
This allows you to put the plate directly under the taillight instead of hanging down under the reflector and for plate lights i used the led bolt light from herehttp://www.customdynamics.com/illumi...#LED_Tag_Bolts
and youre all done hope this helped, i got a integrated turn signal taillight from clear alternatives for my turn signals in the back

I cut my fender up to where i could mount the plate so it was directly under the tail light, eliminating the license plate light and covering the seat key. To remedy the plate light removal, I cut a rectangular section out of the bottom(dremel cutting disc) of the tail light lens so that light could shine down on the plate. Cut a small piece of clear plastic(lexan) and glued it in. Works perfectly.
For the seat key, i enlarged the bolt hole in the top of the plate just big enough to get the key in and put another fastener lower down to hold the plate. you can view on link below.

I did the same as nath, only I left the seat lock. Cut off 5 inches with a Dremel, then cut a section out of the bottom of the taillight for the license light and glued in a piece of milky plastic. Cheap and easy.

I left the seat lock in its original position, just widened the bolt hole in the top left of the plate fro access to the lock.
also shortened the turn signals by removing the rubber sections and attached with plastic ties. probably could make a bracket holder, but for now , the ties are fine.

nath - did you take the spacer(stalk?) off your stock lights? i did that and mounted them to the remains of the undertail. i had to mickey mouse a self tapping screw to hold them on. they haven't fallen off in two seasons. recently i bought mini sig lights, oxfords, halogen buls. i have yet to mount them.

yeah i did remove the stock and drilled a couple holes and threaded black heavy plastic tie through and fastened and they've been fine. Kinda like sewed it on.
