RC-51 body

Has anyone except for that one on ebay put the body kit from a rc-51 on a superhawk?

I am very interested in doing this and will put some money into it if needed, but wondering if anyone has done it and has advice

Do you know if sharkskinz has the brackets or do you just buy the body pieces and make your own brackets?

Sorry just hate to email them and have them go, duh we cant do that

My friend just bought a 98 VTR with the RC-51 body on it...

it looks REALLY good IMO...BUT there are some major differences that i could tell...one is that the radiators on the VTR sit lower...so the fairing openings are in the wrong place....the other is that the brackets had to be custom made...

It shouldn't be that hard to find a pair of used from an RC-51 and fit them should it?

Well even used they aren't cheap but that's not what I'm referring too. Not only would you need to wire it for two bulbs, their design will lead to a domino effect. Like.....

The stock VTR gauges and upper stay will have to be swapped out for RC items or significantly modified to make room for the RC headlights. If you go with the RC gauge, it bolts to the 51's central ram air duct (the rc doesn't have a traditional fairing stay/bracket like the VTR) so that knocks down another domino and you'll have to figure out another method to attach that.

The 51 also uses a front tank mount, hoop style (a'la cbr900) mirror bracket to provide additional bracing but I don't think that totally mandatory (use bar end mirrors). It would foul with the VTR's above the triple clip ons.

I haven't seen a VTR yet with RC headlights. They've either been trackbike only or running some small units glassed into the middle over the RC's ram air intake.

The wiring isn't a problem... that's easy... And finding them is just a matter of time and $...

The gauges would be the problem... altough mounting the headlights with the stock fairing stay in place shouldn't be a probrem since they go on each side of the ram-air, leaving room for the center part...

I think it would be possible with a smaller gauge cluster like the RC's or like a the CBR units 929/954/1000RR... That and matching up the mount points on the body to the stay...

EDIT: ok, i see some details in ur first post jd, but how difficult was the bracket fab? and the clipons? do they fit ok?

holy cow, DETAILS!!!! im debating whether or not to save my $$$ and go all out with my hawk, or to drop it on an older RC51 (SP1 ie: 00/01)...supersport suspension and body work are calling me...

if not, suspension swap + rc bodywork would be totally bomb too...GIVE US DETAILS

...plz :]

off topic, yes, but i just wanna show off a lil too

it was not bad at all flip the brackets from left to right drill hole that are piloted in the fiberglass as far as clip ons are OEM
