yeah, I never thought of that. I moved mine forward. But you could move them back and rest your knees on them, esp if you have body armor on your knees for when you hit a good bump.

I dont know if anyone mentioned this but I use F4i sliders. They were only $30 and come in red to match the fairing. I have "tested" them 2 or 3 times & they did the job.No fairing replacement needed. (one crash was a highside; broken collar bone- all fairings intact)

The look fine on the bike when your riding it...

They don't stick out much more than I do.

I agree. And black is less noticeable. Matching the fairings would look tacky IMO.

Thats a great picture, I'm gonna be working on taking some "action" shots next time we get some bikes on the road. I have had the sliders on now for a while and am completely used to them now.

If I recall correctly, they come with instructions that tell which one is for which side. I don't think I kept my instructions though.

You could try contacting them directly: http://t-rex-racing.com/

According to the directions, the longer bolt (M10x100mm) fits the left side and the shorter bolt (M10x80mm) fits the right.

The directions quote industry torque standards for M10 bolts as 31ft/lbs...the manual has a complicated step by step method with different torque settings for each of the engine hanger bolts, I seem to recall the consensus on the forum was 40 ft/lbs or so and that's what I used...if you do a search you may find that number.

Thanks oahu hawk...so the supplied manual with the t rex sliders actually state the longer bolts goes on the drive chain side and the shorter one goes on the rear brake pedal side?

work much better rotated forward 45 degrees in terms of not being obstrusive.

T-Rex was out of stock recently. I called them and they said 6-8 weeks till they would have more?!

So I bought some sliders that looked exactly the same on Ebay.
They aren't T-Rex but they are pretty much the same.

I see in the manual that the bolts should be only 29 ft/lbs. Is 40 ft/lbs risking stripping it out?

I'll revive this thread after more than a year to add this:
My project 2003 was completely finished a couple of weeks ago when I decided to take it to work. Long story short, the brand new back tire slipped out from under me as I left my house, low siding the bike which landed on my leg breaking both my tibia and fibula. I have gone down on other bikes but never had this kind of damage happen so I was trying to work out what went wrong. I realized that the SH doesn't have much recessed protection for the rider's legs in the event of bike going over, and had I had frame sliders on the bike, not only would my fairings probably been saved, but more importantly, My leg may not have gotten caught and I wouldn't have broken it.

So boys and girls, take a lesson from the gimp laid up in his recliner right now, frame sliders may actually save more than your fairings...

Same thing happened to me. Well, not the busted leg part. But brand new tires first lap out on a chilly morning at BIR. Relatively low speed low side.

T-rex sliders performed well. Zero damage to the front fairing. Just a small blemish on the tail fairing. And a little rash on my left midpipe and bar end.

The slider will need to be replaced. The bolt is bent and it is ground down a good 1/2 inch or more. But far cheaper and easier than replacing the whole left side.

Cool Alternate frame sliders

Just wanted to let the group know that 2007/2008 R1 frame sliders will bolt right up to the SH, all you need is a slightly longer pair of M10 1.25 bolts:

So the part that goes into the indentation in the frame is the same?

It may just be the angle of the pic, but that R1 slider looks a lot shorter than the slider made for the VTR. It may bolt on and may protect the frame, but if it's shorter it looks like the fairings will make contact with the ground.

A VTR I recently bought has the T-Rex sliders. I don't care for the look, and I have long legs so my knees hit them sometimes which can be annoying. If I leave them on a bike I might try to trim the slider and rotate it forward like nath981 did

If you think they look iffy now you gotta weigh that against how iffy smashed plastics look. You wil choose the sliders. I like the purposeful look

You can paint them red (krylon fusion plastic paint) or get f4i red ones. The bike with the givi case has the smaller f4i red ones and has been crashed twice on them & still wears original unfixed bodywork

Yes, and seem very solid, I'm sure they will take some damage in the impact but they look like they will hold up.

I tried to convince the seller to give me 2 of the longer ones but no joy. As soon as I'm off my crutches, then I'll see if the shorter one is still long enough to protect the bike. I suspect that it is, and that the long one is just very long.

If the short one is long enough, then I'd love to trade it for someone else's long one as I don't really care how much they stick out. Function over for for me.
