Opinions wanted on painting bellypan

I picked up a used marionava tail section from a forum member -wrong color so I'm going to have it painted to match my yellow bike. I'm sending it out and wonder if I should have the bellypan painted the same. Its black now. Appreciate opinions - color match or leave black. You have to excuse my poor photoshop techniques - trying to give myself a better idea of what it will look like. thanks

I think black looks better than yellow, but I don't like bellypans on VTRs. I put mine in the garage long ago. Oil changes are easier without it and you can use the longer oil filter. I think the bike looks better without one.

Yellow. No wait, BLACK! I went for the bumblebee look with dark along the bottom. Though it's carbon fiber. Paint the front fender too and if you get a hugger, that could go black as well. Just one opinion.

Black looks nice. Are those convertibars on the RC front end? Cool that's what I'm using on mine also. An early six spoke rc front wheel goes nice with a 900rr rear...and a brace on that swingarm... That's a really nice bike.

Heck while you're at it are you interested in selling the tail and seat cowl? PM me I'm finishing up my yellow '99 and if I can avoid painting stuff that would be great.

thanks for all the comments guys. Looks like universal for keeping it black. That was my initial feeling as well.
RK1, I agree with you some, but I think the bare lower side of the superhawk engine is particularly ugly. I think the black bellypan cleans it up and by being black minimizes its appearance.
Greg, nice bike - the black fender does look good.
Capt - yes they are convertibars, I used them for quite awhile - but I finally just drilled the top triples and put bar mounts on and a superbike fat bar. Just a lot simpler look for me and nearly the same final position. I agree completely about the wheels - I found a used 900RR wheel at a good price, thinking it matched the front RC wheel I had. So now I just have to find a 6spoke RC front. Trying to be patient though. I'd really like to find a way to use an RC rearwheel and just find some used lightweight RC wheels that occasionally come up. Weren't you working on modifying an RC swingarm? did that ever work?

Yeah it's a sickness...I went from the six spokes with a 900rr braced arm...and should've been happy with that. Got involved with an " jig built copy of the one that fits perfect on my bike" sp2 arm a guy on here built awhile back. Took my money but didn't fit right and think/hope it's at a shop now that says they can fix it right. Gave them my other superhawk also to make sure I don't get it back until it does. Here's an older pic with the marchesini's. Radial mount front brakes are hopefully coming soon too. I've spend WAY too much time and money on this thing but hope to one day finally show her off.

I've never been a big fan of belly pans/lowers on VTR's... except for the Moriwaki lower. On the other hand... I think it's just as bad without the chin fairing.

I think the black finish gives it a very nice "race look" which goes very well with your bike.

I think there are two types of belly pans. The ones that are very integrated to the upper should be the same color as the upper. The detached pans or lower "wings" as I call them are best black. I thought about all the options before I had my header and mids coated.

Or I guess if you painted that rear cowl black to match it could look ok.

I realize this is not a photoshop forum, however...

Use the magnetic polygonal lasso to select the belly pan.

Hit Ctrl J to make the belly pan a new layer.

Add a hue/saturation layer and click Colorize. Hue 40-45, Saturation 100, Brightness 15-25 worked pretty well for these pictures, you might want to play around. Press enter.

Rightclick the H/S layer and select Create Clipping Mask so it only colorizes the belly pan layer. You can also create the H/S layer and make it a clipping mask before you change the color, makes it easier to match color.
