?? For Naked Guys
Hey all, Ive finally started the process of going truly naked and I am enjoying the transition. I also finally have enough money to get a new headlight and possibly a gauge cluster. Problem is this, Ive tried every possible combination of words I can think of on ebay and I cannot find any of the fork mounted headlight mounts with built in turn signals that I see on so many naked bikes.
Can I get some feedback on where I can find the mounts, what headlights seem to do the best, and also where I can get the best bang for my buck as far as gauges are concerned,
I'm a poor grad student so lets try to be gentle with the prices please. Thanks in advance guys!

Do a Google search for "street fighter headlight" and "Koso gauges" if you haven't already tried that. Attach "ebay" to the end of your search string.
Maybe this can give you some ideas:
HeadLight Kits. StreetFighters Inc. One stop shopping for StreetFighter & Motorcycle Accessories.

I chose to go my own route, fab a bracket for the mount, much easier to go with fork mounted headlight setup. Also it's important to know whether you want to hook into the stock plug easily (H4 60/55W) or not. You may want to check out EasternBeaver for relays after you figure out what headlamp you'll buy. I always think the planning/purchase stage is 1/2 the fun, enjoy!

I sprayed 4 ~1.5 inch conduit hangers black and used those. They are cheap and work well with a fender washer or two. I have 10k miles on mine.....
1-1/2 in. Steel Conduit and Pipe Hanger - 67840 at The Home Depot
As for gauges, I went with an Acewell ACE-37XX / ACE-38XX Series. Every feature on it works as described. I made mine "plug and play" and I didn't care for the temp. sensor fitting Acewell provided so I tapped out the stock location and went with that. I wish I could have used the stock speedo sensor but I think that is a different type of sensor and I didn't care to figure out if a conversion was possible at the time. The one I ordered came with a bracket that fit the two holes on either side of the key/lock switch. I mounted mine on the underside and I could not be happier with it. The LCD looks weird with polarized glasses and my helmet shield down, FYI.
Also, I used an H4 light. It is awful at night.

I guess it depends on what you want. I just ran regular "cafe racer" blinkers through the headlight shell, sort of like what they used to do in the 70s and 80s.
I did buy a headlight, but you could get a CB750 one fairly cheap, my blinkers were <$20 and the "ears" were around $55, I think. All said and done I think I spent less than $100 going naked, then made that and more back selling the fairing, headlight, clocks and mirrors.
I use a GPS watch, but there’s a guy selling clocks for a VTR250 on Ebay that would look sweet on a retro bike… The cheap option is a Wal-Wart bike speedo for around $12.

Most of the CBR gauges can be wired to work. I got speed, tach, signals, etc. all functioning on a set of F4I gauges with little hassle (temp was actually a little bit tricky, but totally doable)
Headlights coming from other street motorcycles are usually a good bet- they are all street legal and designed with your safety in mind (and can usually be found on e-bay pretty inexpensively)
Check junkyards... you may find ideas that you didn't think of before. I ended up using my old front fender as a windscreen and could hide all of the messy mounting features for the headlight and turn signals behind that.
In terms of cheap mounts, you can even go as far as getting some 2 in wide aluminum strips, bending them around your forks, and bolting them on... sort of like a teardrop with the big part of the teardrop around each fork. The bolts would go on the skinny point, and one part of the stainless extend out so that you can mount turn signals/headlight/gauge cluster to it- you have made a set of mounts for like $15.

Try "headlight mounting bracket" under all motorcycle parts. If you're looking under vtr or superhawk obviously it won't yield too many results. I picked up an entire assembly from a sv650 (bikini fairing, brackets and functioning headlight) for a little more than $120. There are brackets from a number of bikes that will work (41 mm fork tubes) so doing some research and knowing the fork diameter of other bikes will help tremendously.
Honda CB175,CB350,CR450 AND CR750 Cafe Racer Website
this website has a comprehensive list of fork tube diameter under the tech tips section.
And as mentioned before there are a number of company's that offer kits but the prices are usually a little steeper than what you'll find if you piece it together yourself through a variety of different bikes.
Edit: The bracket for the sv650 did require some modification. It was approx 1/4" too long to fit between upper and lower triple. I chopped out slightly more and welded back together. Blinkers are a $14 set from local bike shop bolted through existing hole in bracket, all extra wiring is stuffed into headlight bracket.
First pic is headlight assy without fairing (painting it), second shows weld..not pretty but not easily seen and perfectly functional. Third is the cheap blinkers and the fourth is because I can't resist showing pics of my exhaust.

Cool looking exhaust, Poppazuti. I can only imagine the effort that went into it. The last factory bike I saw with something like that was the T-Bird Sport, and I loved that bike almost exclusively for the exhaust.
Thing about a lot of the OEM ears you’ll find is they’re faux and bolt up to the triple tree and not the fork legs, so they’re not really universal. I thought that was the case with the SV, to be honest. They look pretty sharp.
