My work in progress

O.K. I had a brain storm, and dealt with the single exaust restrictive problem. I took the can apart, and repacked it with some FMF dirtbike packing, and DAMN, she runs like a scalded cat. Here are some new pics, sorry about the quality, took them tonight. I will take some good ones in daylight and post them soon. I guess I am "pretty much done". Ha, are we ever really done. Nope....Pics didnt load. See the post below.

That is looking nice. I don't know if I'd be a fan of the seat or the riding position, but I like the overall look. A true Honducati.

That Yosh Tripple is rediculously sexy. I love the whole look of the bike, especially the 999 tail. Only thing I would have like to seen was a different swingarm, but thats just me...

At least brace that swingarm, you will feel the difference...

I kind of wanted to dislike that bike since it's more form than function... But I just can't bring myself to do that... Since it's actually both... And looks good... Dangit... I like it...

Thinking is bad for you... I started out with the intention on just swapping out the forksprings on my bike... Then I started thinking, and look where I ended up... About now the only thing I haven't modded is the frame, but it will get bracing at some point, so it's just a matter of time...

Well... You are kind of off to a great start too...

Yeah, yeah I know, most would consider it more than a start, but since I never stop tinkering I assume everybody else is the same... My Charger has gone through several changes the 15 years I have owned it, and I'm not done... The VTR is the same, it will never be completely done...

Looks great. Your not gonna do an underseat exhaust & single sided swingarm? (I am partial to those). How does it handle?

It would look a little better if the pipe ran parallel with the bottom of the tail.

Actually I agree, bend the pipe a bit more, and get the angle of the pipe and tail the same... That will improve the looks significantly... Ducati or not...

Oh, if you really wan't to confuse people, get a termi pipe... That should have people scratching their heads...

I actually like the steeper angle on the exhaust, and think it makes the bike look slightly more aggressive.

Parallel to the tail wouldn't look bad either, but you should go with what you like.

Why have the pictures been removed?

I saw them the 1st time I viewed this thread, now they're gone.

Where are the pics.

Yeah, I deleted the pics. I kind of decided to get it completely finished, then post pics. I found myself getting swayed by opinions (not that I dont very much appreciate the input). It may sound selfish, but I wanted to complete the project based solely on my original vision. Guess I'm just weak minded. Hopefully I have offended no one. ..The update is, I have been trying to modify the stock hedder to a two into one, with a Yoshi TRS cannister. It sounds great, but is a bit restrictive, so it steals away from top end performance. So, I have abandoned this avenue, and am considering an RC51 Jardine 2-1 full exaust. Dont know if it will bolt up though. I am stuck on a single can app, that breathes. O.K. now I am looking for input. Thanks guys......

No worries Apex, just pleased too hear we will get to see your finished work when you're ready.

I saw the photo's in the morning and was going to comment on your good work when I returned next, but when I did return the pic's had been removed. I was disappointed more than anything as I was (still am) really looking forward to seeing the finished bike when you get there. Keep up the good work.

Damn, tried to load pics on the 1st post. didnt work. I'll try again. So, here is the story again. The single can was restrictive, and the top end performance was ****. I took the can apart and repacked it with some FMF dirtbike "race packing", and now it screams. Bummer is, It is bone stock. And I am going to install yoshi cams, hi comp pistons, stage 3 jets, etc in the future. Guess I'll just have to go with twin cans and full exaust at that point. That is unless I can have a custom large diameter header made. Thinkin about ram ducts and modified air box as well. I will get some better quality pics soon. Thanks for all the encouragement guys... Keep the shiny side up!!!!

8541Hawk will become famous soon enough
Ram air and modified airbox...... I would strongly recommend against it.
If you decide you just have to try it, the only way you will get the carbs to work is to plug the air bleeds and start with 155\158 jetting and go from there.

It can deliver some good top end if you take the time to dial it all the way in but you loose the bottom & mid-range so it really is a track only option and even then it's more troble than it's worth.

I wasnt sure how much it would effect the low and mid. I love the low and mid range of the hawk, and since it will be a street only bike i most likely wont do it. I'm just looking for a bit more on the top end where the hawk suffers. But it isnt worth the trade, since 80% of my riding is in the RPM range where tha hawk shines. Its quick enough as it is, but who couldnt use a little more power. I love the wealth of knowledge and positive input this site provides. Thanks bro.

Might be just me, but I always hate when a bike is considered "finished". Seems like you did a ton of work all at once. So what do you do now for the rest of the winter?
