Mulling over a paint job... RCV scheme?

So long as its all apart for all the other mods, I've been toying around with repainting from red to something else. I was a fan of the Orange Arrows F1 team, so we ripped off there livery and put it on our race karts. The black and orange really looks good (IMHO of course).

I started thinking the Repsol scheme looked good, minus some of the logs. That Higgens bike was quite nice, and really liked the orange wheels too. While trolling around, I found photos of the Honda RCV(?) and really like it!

So, an hour or so later with some really poor MS Paint hacking, I came up with this:

I like the colors, and the way the Honda emblem is worked into the design, but nothing blatant / sponsory.

Thoughts?

I think the orange and black color scheme would look pretty sharp.

The Superhawk is best in two colors. I think the orange and black is racey.

Swingarm and frame need to be PC black to make the look total.

I like the paint scheme, but I think it would look much better with black rather than orange wheels.

Tweaked it a bit more, this time with a dark exhaust (mine are cf), black out front rotor carriers, and the frame / swingarm in black.

The darkened frame / swingarm really does "de-busy" the look of things. Don't know if I have the time to strip the ENTIRE thing down to paint the frame. I wonder how much can be done with things still in the frame and a bunch of masking

Cool, thanks for all the input! Looks like with a little more finessing thats the way I'm going to go! I'm going to do a practice run on the kid's pocket bike before I hit the hawk, so we'll have a working 1/5th rideable model to see how it'll look

Painting is underway! Just scrubbed, sanded, 3 x primed and 3 x flat black the swingarm. Turned out looking rather nice! While that cures I'm getting the rear subframe going tomorrow, and so long as the whole exhaust system is off, I'll probably high-temp flat black everything back from the exhausts. When that is back together I'll switch ends that are hanging from the ceiling and get going on the rest of the main frame.

Figure I'll knock this part out now so I can get back to fitting the rear wheel. Test paint job on the mini "RC51" will start up when that is finished

I would love to get my frame powdercoated black, and do an orange/black paint scheme. Maybe down the road sometime!

Figured it'd been almost a year, so I best get back at it As I had to have the forks off to replace a seal, I decided to finish things up. As she stands just down from the hoist, the exhaust system is high temp flat black back to the CF cans. Swingarm, subframe and main frame are now flat black as well:

Looks very nice, even in person Will getting sanding on the tank and plastics later this week (and trolling craigs for a decent paint gun as I no longer have access to one, been awhile!).

Yup, they are OZ HL02's for the RC-51. There's a really long thread I did about getting them on (wasn't as easy as I'd hoped lol).

The bodywork is all sanded down and ready to prime, I'm just waiting for this cold-rain front to go away! Or will it really matter on the primer coats? Patching up a few dings in the tank too. I've allready installed the APE cct's, put in the K&N, done the valve adjust and an oil change. Out of things to do until the weather clears!

Painting is more fun then I remembered I suppose if you only have to do one it isn't so bad.

All the bodywork is taken apart, sanded and primed. All the dents in the tank are fixed (really easy with that bondo stuff), sanded and primed. The cracked tabs on the bodywork and front fender I was able to fix using that plastic welding trick somebody posted here with zip ties and a torch. They turned out great and VERY strong!

On the garage floor as I type:

I'm using Duplicolors primer, and a HVLP gun from Lowe's, which so far has worked very well. A touch of sanding then I'll do inside and out of everything with a layer of black, then it'll be Repsol orange, followed by the masking for black Honda wings, then a few layers of clear.

We'll see how it goes
