I'm not sure where it came from, but the carbochicken has a little nub on top of the steering stem that I can attach a camera mount to. The camera mount is like something you'd find on top of some tri-pods. It was modified (by the P.O.) with a small flat piece of wood with velcro on top. He used a radar detector on it, but could be easily modified to accept a camera or GPS. I can snap a pic if you want.

Thanks for the pics....I think I can figure some thing out and make it work....

I think it would be pretty easy to create that mounting rod that sticks up with the right tools (mainly a lathe). The tripod top would be an item to buy.
Find a piece of rod stock about the right diameter for the tripod top.
Cut a band in the rod to make clearance for the clamp bolt on the mount.
Turn the other end of the rod down to the ID of the steering head bolt. Make the length long enough to go in maybe 2" or so.
Drill a thru hole in the tap size of whatever bolt you want to use, (M6 or M8 maybe).
Cut the small end of the rod at a 30-ish degree angle.
Tap the smaller piece that gets cut off and drill the top portion to a thru hole (and countersink for the head of the bolt)
Once it was screwed together loosely you could put it down the middle of the steering head bolt and tighten it up. The angle will bind the lower part and keep it held in the head bolt.
If there was a specific tripod mount that worked best, maybe someone could make a small production run of the steering head mounts.
