Moto GP Exhaust

Has anyone done this type of exhaust? I've come to like the looks of them on the GP bikes, and have a friend who owns a muffler shop...... I may have too many winter projects, tho.

I would really like to do that same thing, but it's going to be a custom pipe. I thought i might be able to use a racefit exhaust system, but it's not made for the SH let alone any twin bike out there. I'd like something like this:

Let me know if you find anything else...

That would make a superhawk SCREAM... Wow, that would be one loud exhaust. I thought he was talking more about the open megaphone style of GP pipes...

I am talking about the Moto GP type, such as come on the new GSXR's, only a little smaller and lower.

Oh... to me, that just looks like a gigantic slip on ... this is what I consider MotoGP exhaust, tried and true megaphones baby:

Some years ago D&D sold reverse megs for the Superhawk. If you think regular D&D's bark their megs had to be obscene from a db standpoint.

I found a website some time ago of a guy with a TL1000 that just cut his pipes and dropped a 3" baffle in. He used a band saw and did a slash cut on the pipes right behind the footpegs. It looked pretty badass. I have the stock headers and pipes and am thinking about doing it sometime. But with it being almost wide open it might be too loud and would definitely need to be jetted. Baffles should cost less than $20, so I just need to find a band saw and start chopping.

Here is the link to the TL. There is video and step by step instructions.

What would be the difference in a SH with drag pipes and a Harley with drag pipes? Why would the town rise up against you? Cause you're ridin' a sportbike and not a "badass" Harley (sarcasm)?

LOL...exactly.

I was putting new pipes on mine and took it down the road without any at all. It wasn't that bad, just lacked some power, but jetted right, I think it would haul.

Because the VTR has twice the RPM capability of a Hardly!

It shouldn't be too hard to measure, mix and match some pipes & maybe shorten the midpipes a bit and get the look you want. I can tell you that running open midpipes sounds ridiculous. Yeah it sounds cool-like a stock car, especially once you climb over 4k rpm, but it's annoying and unnecessary. Maybe if you had twice the hp...

I did it. I cut my stock mufflers at the weld where they expand to the main cannister. I bought two 1 3/4" x 4" baffles on ebay for $10 and dropped them in. I'll get pics up in the next couple of days. Only problem I am having is drilling through the stainless steel pipe to get the set screw in. I clamped them in with vice grips and fired her up...pretty effin loud.

I am not going to give up on this project. I found some flexible baffles that I may get to drop in along with the shorties in it now. Also wanna try some muffler packing around the short baffles.

Does anyone know how to drill through stainless? I was using cheap bits and I don't have a drill press.

How about a couple of these...you'd have to fabricate some sort of mid-pipe...just a thought...you could even take out some discs if they're too loud...I don't know if they're worth $200/ea though.

Those could be fun. The quality of their product is definitely up near the top. Dealt with the cage versions and quite enjoyed them. The tunability is great.

try running the hawk on open header. i had a muffler issue that ended in me riding it without the mufflers. It sounded FANTASTIC, much like a nascar. Unfortunately, it was just tooooooo loud for any reasonable human.

I need to get some pics up here of my exhaust.. I have low mount Erions, and I cut them in half (to get rid of some road rash)... they used to stick out to the end of the rear fairing... now they dont even clear the rear tire rim..

I recently did this. Me and some buddies were bored and decided to see how loud it would be. Fantastic? Not to sure about that...a **** load of backfiring! It sounded like a harley on crack. I drove through downtown where I proceeded to **** off every person I passed. It was fun at first...but the sheer loudness just got annoying. Power was still there...of course I was too distracted with the possibility of losing my hearing that I didn't notice a big difference in power.

Reaper and I both chopped our cans already and they sound great. I got hit a couple months ago and got some rash on TBR high mount mid pipe so I started experimenting.

the power was there. I didn't have the back firing, but we rode the thing like we stole it, so it never had the chance to load up. On hard decel, it sounded really cool. I guess that i have spent to much time at Road America, cause the sound for the little bit we rode it wasn't to bad.

I went riding a couple of years ago with a guy from this forum that had D&D's on his shawk. He was setting off car alarms with those. I cant imagine riding with anything louder than that.

And I must say

For those of you considering this mod: remember that loud pipes DON'T save lives.

Obnoxiously loud pipes just **** people off, and makes people hate motorcyclist.
