Matte Clearcoat on Flat Rustoleum Enamel-Base?
Matte Clearcoat on Flat Rustoleum Enamel-Base?
since most of my plastic is off, i'm considering a matte or flat clearcoat to protect the non-pro paint i have on the plastic. i scooted out to a Menards in the burbs to check out what they had. the only clear-coat available in the type of paint i used (all purpose Rustoleum enamel) is gloss. not an option.
the only matte and flat clear-coat they carry is Rustoleum Ultra Cover 2X clear-coat. i looked up the spec-sheet and it is: RESIN TYPE Acrylic modified Alkyd Resin. i guess that won't play nice with the enamel, right?
thanks,

An auto parts store probably has a better selection than a home improvement store
. I've always had good luck at Napa, and they also sell it by the pint if you've got an air compressor and paint sprayer.
Either way, I wouldn't mix the acrylic with the enamel.

I vaguely remember something about this boycott from a previous post. Sometimes you just got to bite the bullet to get what you need, I suppose.
Color-Rite is another option, but at ~$36 a can, well, my pride isn't worth that much

after further inquiry and investigation, it appears that an enamel-based Flat or Matte clear-coat ain't in the cards. i'm not all that disappointed, since i wasn't really looking forward to doing more painting this summer.
i spoke with someone at an area automotive paint shop. he told me that next time i do a flat-black paint-job, i should consider the rat-rod type paint. i guess it is really tough and stands up to the elements and washing very well. maybe in another life i'll repaint all my body-work again.
