Has anybody here ever painted theirs to match rest of their bike? Since im laid off right now and have the time. I would like to take it off and paint it red to match the rest of the bike. Any pics would be a great help. And also how do i go about painting it. Any tips or tricks. Thanks.

 

Block the oil pan, since its flat on the bottom. Remove the front end then swingarm and linkage. Then pull the frame off the motor.

Duplicolor makes a good engine enamel. They make a red thats very close to the stock VTR color. Thats the brand engine paint I used.

Lol, my bad. Thanks Truckinduc but i meant the Lower Engine Fairing. Ive only seen them in the stock silver on most bikes.

 

Yruyur has his chin fairing painted red to match the bike.. here are some pictures from when he compared it to a VFR:

(I painted mine black to contrast the yellow.. that looks decent too)

Mine I did with just spray cans from autozone. I made sure to sand it first, clean it well, use a plastic primer (two coats), took my time and used almost a whole can of black (so 8 - 10 coats lol).

Overkill I am sure, but it gets rock hits occasionally so I figured more is better in this case.

But I wasn't trying to color match.. (part of the reason I chose black)

Cool idea. I am going to check to see if I could get it professionally done, that way I know its a good paint job, with a nice clear coat over it!

 

Nah, I went semi gloss so no need. However I will be getting my new fender painted soon (I am doing a fork swap so new fender is involved) and I may get the chin fairing painted yellow at the same time, and that would need a clear.
