Best way to remove custom vinyl?
Best way to remove custom vinyl?
Just bought a mint '98 SH and the original owner had removed the SH badging on the fairing and replaced it with his "pet" name for the bike - "Red Rooster 997". LOL, I guess he had it bored out 1cc.
I want to take this off and return it to original. Are there any tricks to taking off this vinyl? It is individual letters, so may be quite tedious. Do I just carefully pick away at it with a fingernail, or are there better ways to do it?
Where is the best place to obtain the SH badging?
Thanks,
Tom

Try a hairdryer to soften the vinyl then using something non-scratching to lift it off - grab a bit an it should peel off. Then Isopropyl Alcohol to remove any lingering adhesive.
For replacement OE graphics

on ebay there should be aftermarket single colour graphics kits
or I have posted files suitable for laser cutting (UK style graphics)

I bought a ZX-11 years ago from a "older" customer of mine. He rode pretty mildly, but for some reason (he was a little strange) covered that bike from stem to stern in the kind of B.S. stickers you can find at motorcycle parts counters. Everything from Calvin pissing on a suzuki to any kind of motorcycle related product that had a sticker. Even had them on the windshield. It had lived outside for a while in Texas before he moved to the Northwest. If he wasn't more or less GIVING the bike to me, I probably would have passed just because I wasn't sure how to get it all off the otherwise decent bodywork.
A decent heatgun on the low setting helps soften it, but worked BEST for me was a few cans of "PB Blaster" pentrating oil. Douche the area in question, and douche a couple of thick paper towels and just keep the stuff in contact with the sticker for a bit. If you can get the edge up just a bit where it can attack the adhesive, all the better. It basically turns the adhesive into a gooey mess, but it gets better. After you get the body of the sticker off, spray with more PB and keep rubbing with the PB soaked paper towel and then start buffing off with a cotton cloth/diaper. It's messy, but eventually you won't be able to tell it was ever there. Fingernails work well during this process too to break up the adhesive. You'll have sore fingers if you have a lot of area to cover, but it works. I know I must have a picture of it somewhere covered in stickers, but I'm not sure where...There had to have been 400-500 stickers on that old Ninja when I got it!

Yup, Hair dryer to remove them, then use some "goof off" to get the sticky crap off. It always worked for me.. Good luck. And congrats on the aquisition af a Bad *** Honda SUPERHAWK. It worked real well on my dumbass buddies bike that he totally covered in FAKE FUR. What a dork....
